I bet it wouldn't be very hard to find a auto for around 10k. I would try www.traderonline.com or ebay.

Thanks for the help.
So regardless if I can find one within $10k - $15K range, I'll be checking with eBay, AutoTrader.com, and http://www.cleanandfast.com/sale.html. Being as rare as they are, it'll be hard to find one locally or within an hour or two from my city. I'll see what comes up around the time I go lookin' later this summer. If I can, I would really prefer to be able to test drive one or at least have a reliable inspection of some sort if I were to buy online/classified.Do any of you know other online places other than what I listed that sell 7's (I live in USA)? Thanks for everyone's input.

Dont give up looking EVERYWHERE!
Just purchased my '93 FD (auto) with @7k on a new engine and rebuilt turbos. The lady that I bought it from dropped over $7k for the work (that's what the receipts say). I looked for over 6 months and only spent $9k (I think she would have taken $8k). Obviously she had no clue what it was worth, or just did not care and wanted to sell it right away. Who knows, and I certainly dont give a f#%. Im happy with it!
if you look long enough you can find a good deal. I found my 93 touring for 12,500 with 47,000 on the odo and the body in pretty great shape (6 or 7 dings in one door, but thats it) i did look for about 8 months to find it though.
IT IS POSSIBLE!!!! i got my 93 touring back in January for $10,000!! it had a NEW paint job, 83k on the body and 45k on the engine and turbos! the interior was converted fron tan to black (w/ Bently leather on the seats). it was bone stock. the key is LOOK AROUND...YOU WILL FIND ONE. i looked for this car for over a year and i finally found it. the guy owned a paint and body shop but his land lord was going to kick him out and he needed the money to buy the building.

Thanks for sharing your awesome find. I've been looking now for about a good 3 months but no good finds. There have been a couple that seemed to be pretty good deals (at least I think), but I acted too late...I always get the "Sorry, sold it this past weekend" ordeal. So later this summer, I'll find a good one...since I'll have more time to look around and even more to spend than now!

dont listen to anyone else i got my fd from an auction. not ebay either. i got it for 5000 and had to put 3000 into it. i upgraded everything that was wrong. i got it threw a dealer that i know thats why it was so cheap but that is how to get one for cheap. i did.
I bought my FD in may of 02 for ~$10k. but... i live in kansas city, and i had to drive to cincinatti to get it. and i had to act fast. i checked my email on my cell phone in the morning at work on a friday, my friend had sent me the info, and i called the guy at my first break, called my bank at lunch, and called my dad at second break, and right after work we got in the truck and drove to cincinatti
. we got to the seller's house early the next morning, took a little nap, and drove home. he had just listed it that day. it had 83k miles on the original engine, a little tear in the driver's seat, small chips in the paint on the front bumper, and a little dent in the frontpassenger fender. but as the story goes, on september 5th she lost compression just stopping at a stoplight and has been sitting awaiting a new engine since then. due to economic reasons, i havn't had the funds to get her back running again until now (well, the near future anyway).
you can find the deal you want, but it depends on how thourough, patient and quick you are. if you're looking for a stock ride, i'd advise you to look for one owned by a middle aged enthusiast type cat. someone who just enjoyed owning the car and took care of it. They're usually replacing it with something else, so they're not always looking to get top dollar out of their FD. the guy i bought mine from was replacing it with a porsche boxter S. oh well his loss! even though the FD has spent more time sitting than running since i've owned it, i've never even considered selling it. driving the FD = love.
good luck on your search

Hello israel,
Thank you for your interesting story. Yes, I'm the patient type of guy too. I'll wait as long as I have to, to find the one for me. I'm actually looking at 2 right now, one of which has a rebuilt engine and the other not. But they're both not local so I'll need to see what I can do to get an inspection of some sort.
We'll see how things go for me. It's been a long time since I wanted one but haven't able to purchase one (1998)...but since I waited so long already, don't mind waiting for mine to come my way.

Yep, watch the auto trader in a 200 mile search radius, and wait, and wait, and maybe wait some more (but it's worth it).
As basically everyone says -unless you REALLY like working on cars, get a nice one, expect to pay around 16-18 probably. Read over all the "newbi FAQ" stuff about buying 7's.
Mine was 13k, VR(red) R1(93, "type R model")72k on the od, orig engine/turbo's, pettit intake, dp, blitz cb. Lots of worn out rear bushings which is a big hassle imo. Salvage title from gorgia from a front right impact...
Save up the $, and look for one that has good bushings, compression(engine), yadda yadda yadda. ~16-18k should do ya decent.

it took me about 8 months to find the right FD for me. I found it about a month ago in North Caralina on autotrader and like israel acted extremely fast. I seen the car go on autotrader one day( i checked daily on autotrader and ebay), called the guy up and asked a couple questions about the car. I liked what i heard and because of mine and his work schedule i was gonna look at it like 5 or 6 days later. He was telling me he was getting 6-7 calls a day and there were 3 potential buyers looking at the car before me. I thought to myself, well most people looking at FDs already know what they are getting into and if this car was as good as he said it was, the first person to look at it would buy it ( if the first person turned the car down, most likely it isnt worth it). I then decided to say screw it, i called up work and told them i wouldnt be in for a couple days, and left like 2 hours after i got off the phone without even being able to get a hold of the guy with the change of plans. I eventually got ahold of the guy after about 8 hours of driving (12 hour drive) and he told me he wouldnt be available untill later the next day, so i hung tight when i got there and just walked around town. As soon as i looked at the car, i fell in love with it and knew i would buy it, made him an offer and gave him a deposit. I payed 13,750 for it, It was a touring model and had 79 k miles on chassis, about 500 miles on new engine( not rebuilt), about 4000 miles on rebuilt 5 spd tranny, a new racing clutch a new set of yokohama advan tires, a $2200 knightsport vented hood. The silver paint on the car is in almost perfect condition with the exception of the driver side door were along the edge has some paint peel(very small amount). The body was in great shape with the exception of the same door which has a very small finger print dent in it (not very noticable). the car has a greddy catback exhaust, a greddy intake, a down pipe, a new intercooler, upgraded R1 model springs and shocks, light weight pullies, and a strut bar. Along with the car he included another set of tires witha bout 70 percent of tread left on them, the original hood in perfect condition, and many extra parts. The point is that if you look long enough and are willing to drop everything and drive 12 hours to look at a car, you will find exactly what you are looking for. I was just wondering, what do you guys think this car and all the parts i got are worth? just curious!

Hi,
Thank you for sharing your story with us fastcarfreak.
As of late, I've met a new local friend that I met in this forum. He's given me some pointers and what to look for when looking for one (thanks man for the help). Also, he even offered to help me out and come with me to check out some 7's I'd find. Aside from that...he gave me a test run of the 7 and obviously, I was amazed. Oh yeah, it's a pure sports car w/ performance to back it up. I love it.
Anyhow, with his experience and knowledge on it, he suggested me another route I could perhaps take which seems reasonable and likely. I may actually go for a 7 with already a blown engine with pretty good cosmetics. Head south to Pettit racing and install a new motor. I rather see the engine being installed from ground up if I can. I've never worked with a new/rebuilt engine so this will be a new experience. I'll see how things work out this summer...or maybe sooner.
Thanks again for everyone's input towards this post. Tim

well after reading the posts, look like i got myself a pretty good deal afterall. for $7400 this is what i got. 1993 j-spec rx-7 with original 77,000km(48,000miles) engine. it had about $2000 worth of stereo equipment. exterior mods were momo steering wheel and stick ****, vented hood, side fenders, after market front bumper with cracks on the bottom, spolier that i have yet to install, 18inch rims with very worn out tires(only replaced front cause they didn't have the ones for the back), c-west light conversion kit with a crack on one of the light covers, it also had exaust, 2 k&n air filters, downpipe??(it sounds like car has one), after market radiator, boost guage, water temp guage, and one other guage that has yet to be hooked up. all the mods came from japan... the tachometer isn't hooked up and the gas meter is works half way. i've replaced few hoses here and there, spent $300 on repairs so far. i made the mistake of not doing enough research on the car and just can't put the time to give some TLC. as much as i hate to do it, i'm going to sell the car for what i've put into the car and for small profit. its kinda hard to find buyers here in korea. any suggestions on price of the car? i would love to hand this car to you guys in the states who would care for it, but damm the regulations... good luck to everyone and their quest for the best FD....
