Question Is it possible to bypass the OMP on the stock ECU? (trying to get ready for 7Stock)

Well, a friend of mine recently picked up a FD with some ruffled feathers. It was displaying symptoms of what seemed to be limp mode. I feared for the worse, as I thought it was an OMP issue.

I had him pull the codes and he got a "20", indicating a problem with "Metering oil pump position sensor". I've never really had to deal with the OMP, but as I see it, the OMP is one unit with lines, so this would require a total replacement of the OMP. IIRC, this would also require removal of the turbos to gain access, correct?

In any case, is it possible to bypass the OMP on the stock ECU? I'm not a fan of band-aid fixes, but this car is in need of a quick fix until we sort all of the other things out (unknown health of the motor, unknown boost pattern, etc.). Thanks in advance!

No. Power FC or standalone are the only way. The car will stay in limp mode until you replace the OMP, or fix the wiring (if it is bad) that is causing the code.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess it's time to replace the OMP.

For those of you who happen to stumble onto this thread, here's a nice how-to: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...light=metering

Installing the OMP was pretty straight forward. It's pretty tight down there, but once you get the correct angle, your good to go.

If I recall, I believe I have a extra OMP laying around. It's yours to pick up in San Diego if I can find it.

If you dont think you will have time to do the install, just buy a good omp and plug it into the connection next to the alt where it plugs into the engine harness and pin it back. Of course you will now need to premix as you are bypassing the omp.

If you just want something temporary, I'd just plug a known "good" OMP in and premix as djseven suggests. If it works, and you clear the code, at least you know it was the OMP and not continuity or voltage ala: engine harness problems. And you'd get a chance to figure out if you need to pull the motor, making the replacement alot easier.
But if you do replace it, you do NOT have to remove anything related to the turbos.

That's a great idea. Though, how easily accessible is the plug?

The plug should be between the alt and the Oil filler neck. It is a huge plug and the first one up from the crank angle sensor connectors. Its black and would be pretty hard to miss. Just follow the lines from the OMP if you have problems finding it. You shouldnt have any problems.

Yep. If you don't have to remove the wire loom, just remove the elbow and loosen the alternator. Second picture in that thread you linked earlier.
