Possible Battery problem?

I was just out getting some late snack at the drive thru, had the clutch down and in first gear, but not moving. All of a sudden my rpms started to dip up and down, sometimes to the point where it almost stalled.

I got all nervous thinking something is wrong with the car. I get back home and I sat in the garage and played around with the clutch while in gear, but parked. 1st and 4th gear dipped down and almost stalled but 2nd and 3rd only dipped up and down on a few hundred rpms.

Then I thought about something and then turned off the parking lights and every gear was stable. I made another test, this time with all the lights off and in gear AND also pulled up on both the power windows buttons, and as I predicted the rpms went down ever so slighty and I'm wondering if I have a battery problem.

When I had it in neutral it was also stable. Little help here?

Thanks.

Dan.

The car starts with the battery ,but runs on the alternator, charge the battery and try again. if the problem is there have the alt checked. also see if the alt belt is tight.

Thanks.

Would there be a way to check the condition of the stock battery in the 3rd gen?

And also how much would a new alternator cost?

Thanks again.

Dan.
