Porting Question ??

I m going to buy a engine with Race Port, i know RX7store and GothamRacing are selling a Race Port Engine which are about the same price and same race port. I would like to know about Pineapple porting system, What does pineapple mean for J-port and Bridgeport, are those same as race port ???

i m kinda of shopping around for a rebuild engine, and do you guy know any good rebuilder in CA. I would like to send out the motor and let some one do the rebuild for me and then i install the engine back.

thax

No, a J-port and a bridge port are not a street (or race) port, or they would be called a street (or race) port.

A bridge port ads a small port above the side seal, leaving a small peice for the seal to ride on (looks like a bridge)

Mazdatrix Jport page

Unless you are going for insane amounts of power, and will not be driving the car on the street (much), just get a street port and call it a day.

It would be silly to do a bridge port without enlarging the stock port.
You do a bridge port when a wild street port isnt enough.

a bridge port takes a lot of your low end power away, I would just stick to a Race port.

I have heard that a race port and a Half-bridge port are similar in low in power loss..

+ you get the nice bridge port sound

Is a J port another name for a 1/2 bridge port? I heard that a 1/2 bridge is good for extreme power and is the last port before you cant do any more street.

Akiratdk, Sounds like you have more of an idle issue than just your race port, I have a large street port and my car idles solid at 900rpm as set on my PFC, It sounds great, real slappy and loud as opposed to a smoother sounding stock port...

This is kind of a weak web page but is somewhat informational...

No a J-Port cuts beyond a bidge port in that it cuts into the housing that is in the the middle(forgot all the techincal name at the moment). A bridge is as big as you can get with just opening up the the ports on the end housing that the ports where orginaly in. Turbo'd half-bridged port engines don't lose the low end and tuners found that you can spool a larger turbo quicker with one. Haven't seen or heard a person runnig a full bridge turbo or a J-Port na or turboed. Most likely that the life of the engine starts to decrease faster.
