Polyurethane motor mount failure *warning: graphic photo of dead mount*
So that's what that noise was! I think I got my money's worth out of this one after almost 10 years on the car... anyone else had poly mounts fail in this manner? My exhaust side one let go a few years ago. From my reading polyurethane doesn't like heat and moisture. This is from McMaster so I assume it wasn't junk product.
On the plus side, I realized new mounts are much easier to install if I use 2x 1" long sections rather than 1x 2" section. Don't have to separate the engine from the subframe quite as much... I almost dropped the subframe before I realized another cut on the band saw would solve my problem after much cursing and prying to no avail.

Yes to the exhaust mount. Stock heat shield. And I even machined an insulating disc of glass filled teflon after it failed to isolate the mount from heat conduction from the mount arm.
Exhaust side looks about to fail again after only a few years... cracks starting on it. The piece itself I have had for 10 years, so maybe it just degrades over time to some extent.
I just snagged another fresh 3" OD x 15" length drop/extra from a US manufacturer, so I'm probably good for the next decade of ownership
