the good thing about ceramic coating is it takes longer to heatsoak.
the bad thing about ceramic coating is it takes longer to un-heatsoak

As I recall, there are a few members who do polishing on the side. I was quoted $175 for the UIM about 6 months ago. I am not even going to mess with doing it myself. Sounds very labor intensive. I'd rather let somone who knows what they are doing do it for me. Well worth the money in my opinion.

I'm a believer in coatings, esp for a car that runs as screaming red hot as the FD....I now have the turbo manifold (full non-sequential), DP, UIM, and LIM coated (inside and out): keep heat in where it belongs and out where it doesn't belong

polishing looks cool, but that's the extent of it, and it may result in more long term maintenance than coated parts, although I'm not certain about this...as far as thermal isolation, no contest!!

i've got a scoop in my hood, so whatever air the turbo doesn't eat, the manifold, coils and injectors get. add the water injection, and i caa do some screaming boost runs and my uim is only slightly warm to the touch.

i forgot another good thing about the ceramic coating--cleans up very easily!!

Best of luck to you. I know how work intensive the process is.

So for all you guys that have done this by yourself... would you mind showing a pic of all the tools you used? I.E. the bits that you put on the dremmel, what kind of polishing agent you used, what grit sandpapers/cookies you used, etc . So far all I see is "dremmel", "bench grinder" and cookie". Seeing a pic of the actual bits used to make something look this nice would be something I would be greatful for as I will immediately go out and buy those bits and try them out on some of my spare aluminum pieces .

Just save your free time, turn a couple extra hours at work, and have someone do the polishing for you.... Some nice work from R&R Rotary:
