Plume of smoke after lift off at high rpms

Its very strange .

if I'm at 8k-6k rpm's and I lift off rather then shift I get this plume of smoke behind me .

Now .. it smells like gasoline .

I have no coolant leaks at all .

and I have very little oil consumption besides its not dark smoke it smells strongly of gasoline .

If I shift instead of lift it doesn't happen . I'm curious if maybe this is the symptom of a leaky injector on liftoff

it would prob be the primaries , as the secondaries have been replaced and it did it before / after .

Or maybe this is a setting on the Power FC ?

Check your PCV setup or it could be signs the turbos are starting to burn a little oil. When you lift off throttle at high rpm the enigne pulls the most amount of vacuum that it will see. When you shift and stay in throttle it does not pull as much vacuum.

I'm sorry but that is ironic and funny as ****.

Honestly, it's probably been doing it for a while and you're just now noticing. Keep running them until they are like the Mosquito Control truck (us Floridians know these well).

its had this problem since I bought the car and ran 6 months at 7 psi . ( no restrictor pills )

doubling the PSI didnt fix the issue but it didnt make it worse . since it only happens when you lift at such high rpms its not something you commonly do so I didnt pay attention since I was going to get BNR's from a friend .

but it doesn't hurt to see if there could be any other causes for it apart from the turbos .

Also I was curious why it only happens on deceleration .

Might be worn oil control rings. How many miles on the engine?

If it does turn out to be the turbos, maybe turning the boost back down to 10psi will prolong their life for a while longer?

have an oil catch can?

check to see if its full. it could be pulling that oil into the motor at higher rpm's.

no oil catch can , But I did the no oil filler cap trick , so there shouldnt be any vacume
to suck the oil in , i'm still going to eliminate the PCV valve today for the hell of it . and who knows we'll see how that turns out

Failing oil control rings start out by smoking at decel / high vacuum. I would put money on this being what you are seeing.

Removing the oil filler cap only prevents vacuum in the oil pan volume, and has no (or very little) effect on the vacuum in the intake manifold due to sudden closure of the throttle butterfly at high revs. (Could this be a surge in oil injected from the OMP lines at high vacuum?)

Have you checked all your vacuum hoses? White smoke after a WOT run could be a vacuum leak that may only be present under heavy load.

edit: I would probably start with gaskets.

My rats nest hoses have been changed but there are a couple hoses and shady things left that need to be replaced .

Same thing happened to me but it was when I let off the throttle no matter the rpms. So i put a restrictor on the turbo and so far so good. But pretty sure is asking for a rebuild

I had similar symtoms a few years back, it turned out to be oil control ring inserts. Will it do the same thing during free rev?

Start there easier to diagnose when known problems are fixed. Change o ring on throttle and hard gaskets on turbos, uim and lim.
