plugs - 7sa nd 9s or 9s all around
i have searched but still want advice on weather to go 9s all around
I'll probably go platinum either way, but I do a track event almost every weekend and I run the car hard int eh upper rpm ranges, so i can see the benefit of the 9s all around in that case, BUT i will only be running 12-13 psi and daily drive the car during the summer, so i dont want it to run like sh_t cold, it runs really well cold right now and i would like to keep that, so teh relativly low boost level i run plug wanting a smooth cold running car make me want to stay with 7s and 9s....
...suggestions based on experience?

i wouldn't go 9's all around if you are going to daily drive your car. I had 9's on my car for 2 months, and i daily drive mine too. It ran like **** when it's cold.
If i start the car and wait like 3 min tops and drive it. Most of the time it will stall because the spark plugs aren't warmed up yet.
I mean i couldn't wait to switch back to 7's and 9's. I mean i know some people that make 360 + RWHP on 7's and 9's with no problem.
Just my .02 cents.

I just put 9's all around on my car, and didn't notice any negative effects when the engine is cold. Of course I baby it and don't go into boost at all until the engine is past 170F.
I don't know why it would matter if the engine ran rough when the engine isn't warmed up yet, you aren't supposed to run it hard then anyway.
I read that you get some extra protection against detonation with 9's. If that is even remotely true, I think that it is worth a trading off a little driveability while the engine warms up.
My car is stock except for a air intake and a boost controller set at 10psi.

go 9's all the way around unless you need to smog the car. i have been running copper 9's and changing them at every oil change. for the price i get them for it outweighs the price of platinum. i put maybe 2K miles on my car every 4 months now that i dont drive it daily. didnt notice anything but a slightly different idle when cold. i can hear it backfire just a tad more than normal, but it doesnt bother me. do yourself a favor and think of it as just another form of insurance, granted it is small insurance. if you dont like it then just go normal...this isnt a forever mod. let us know how you like it.

don't race, don't need to
For us who are running stock and not racing the car (yeah, I bought a TOURING for a reason ), I can mention that I tried running all 9's for a little while. Car seemed sluggish, and the plugs were pretty fouled after 2K miles. I went back to 7's and 9's. But I don't rev it real high real often, so I build carbon more than 'yall racin'!!

yeah, i dont want to loose my smooth idle, low rpm running, but im close to redline for hours on the track every weekend, so ill have to just test out all 9s to see how much it changes the non track behavior...
question, how can you tell if your plugs are fouled and what causes that condition, to rich on cold plugs?

don't race, don't need to
Yeah, too rich on cold plugs, mostly from the accelerated warmup fuel dump on startup and not revving the engine to clear the carbon often enough. Your racing should be fine, and the 9's give peace of mind. Kinda...

I never had ANY problems running 9's and it didnt seem to affect my idle either, but every car is different sooooo
BTW - Now I run 10's ALL the time and dont have any problems at all with them. Course when I went 10's I also installed a MSD6a on my leading so that helps keep them clean.

All 9s here. Have a brand new OEM set waiting for me to install tomorrow.
I tend to agree that on a colder day startup it is a tiny bit rougher, but since I don't touch the throttle until the stock temp gauge needle is past the 2nd line, then I drive her under 2k rpms until she's fully warmed up.

Go all 9's smartest thing I ever did. Never had a problem with them. Any extra peace of mind you can get is worth it's weight in gold (just look at the # of views of the PR stunt *ahem* "anti-detonation" plugs thread)
