pluged up cats, Just remove them?

Well I found out both the pre cat and main cat are starting to get pluged up. I was just going to replace the down pipe with an hks and have the exhaust shop make a 3" pipe to replace the cat and connect to the factory exhaust. Is this safe?
So far I'm completly stock, not even an air filter. Do I have to worry about fuel or boost creep or spikes? Also I might have to drive 30 miles on the interstate to the exhaust shop with only a down pipe. I know it will be loud but should I expect any other problems?

NO! It is NOT safe.

If you must do it, either put on a boost controller or remove the pill from the wastegate line. If your boost starts going over 10 psi, you will have to get off the throttle.

I strongly recommend that you at least replace the stock cat with a hi-flow cat for some restriction instead of going with a midpipe. Also, do not get an intake or cat-back until you get an ecu that can handle these mods.

If you can't afford it, then you shouldn't have bought the car in the first place.

BTW, it's illegal for an exhaust shop to do what they are doing for you....guess they like taking risks.

well i drive with just a downpipe sometimes... and all is good but i got all that jazz rynberg was talkin buot..

my personal oppionion is this.. u will get boost problems without a controller... no doubt.. and stock fuel cut is what 12 psi? u dont wanna hit fuel cut.. its all bad my friend...

id get a midpipe... screw teh high flow its more money and less hp if ur worried about the noise... get a resonated midpipe... but definetely get the downpipe...

and its not illegal for the exhaust shop to do it... if u believe that then u are mistaken... i think>>> lol i hope im not mistaken

as far as driving it 30 miles... well u can do it.. driving isnt gonna be ur problem.. make sure u have propper cool down time and that u dont suck up a shitload of cold air in ur hotside of ur turbo .....

but i do agree with if u dont have the money... get out while u can... cause check the post on how much we spend on our cars per year...

other than that... nice to see ya on the forum... and good luck with the car....

oh btw... if ur gonna have the shop do all taht work.. spring for the whole exhaust system....

So the factory cat back isn't going to going to give me enough back pressure and restriction to control boost creep?
I never said anything about not being able to afford anything. Its just I discovered this problem and want to deal with it now. I haven't had time to look for cat back systems, mufflers, fuel and boost controllers. Well come to think about it thats like a grand worth of stuff.

As far as the cat thing goes, I believe it varies from state to state. In PA the law doesn'
t state you have to have one. All it says is that if you (exhaust shop) remove one you must put it back on. You don't even need it to pass emissions as along as you can pass the sniffer.

No. In fact the stock wastegate will still creep because it is incapable of venting that much exhaust with a midpipe. Midpipes must have ecu compensation or you are begging for trouble.
