Plug Color Diagnosis Help! Pics.

Well I pulled my plugs today, btw those folks saying they can do it in 15 minutes or so must be NASCAR pit crew memebers during the week.

Took me a solid hour (guess Im a hamfisted tard). Anyway, here are the pictures. Leading Plugs are on the left, Trailing on the right.

My Leading plugs look normal (tan color) except for some heavy build up, but the Trailings look to be running pretty rich (black color)

These are BUR7EQ Leading, BUR9EQ Trailing.

Appreciate any comments.

Is that a chunk out of the first leading one? That can't be good.

No its just carbon build up... I was able to sand it all off. There is no metal missing from any of the plugs

They just look old. The buildup is probably from the oil pump and is normal. But replace your plugs more often since they're very essential to running well. I actually think the Trailing plugs look better than the leading, so.... normal.

I took my leading plugs out one weekend to verify my thoughts on running rich. The ususal smelling gas from the exhaust, little pop after cutting it off and, the bumper being smutted somewhat. The leading plugs were black with little carbon deposits.

One month later I took them out to replace them. By now it is much colder outside and the leading plugs have went from black to a brownish color, and the trailing plugs have a light brown ring from the center of the plug coming outwards about 2mm.

It was real interesting seeing the effect colder weather can have. For each of the times I checked the plugs I drove the car the same...always to 4k in 1-3 gears and 4th going on the interstate...and at least 3 times to 6k in 1st-3rd gear.

NathanRX-7, car looks good...only if you could drive it like that..HEHEHE.

Thanks whitekingsnake.

It is the trailing plugs' job to combust whatever they can of the intake charge that the leading plugs' didn't right? Is that why the leading plugs tend to be darker in color and/or somewhat wet? Thanks.
