do you have a list of states and who will be contacting the DMV? it wouldn't really be anything more than a waste of time to have 18 people in MD get the same list and not have anyone in say, Alaska do it. perhaps a new thread or just a post with a list of states that you know are being taken care of and some that need someone to step up would be in order.

p.s. this is a really good idea and i applaud you for doing something that could potentially be very benficial to all FD owners everywhere (at least in the U.S.)

Heath,

I really appreciate your constructive criticism. Really. I resepect the fact that some ppl may have issues with how we're doing it, but it kind of irks me that they leave it at that, vs. chiming in w/ their $0.02 about how we can make it BETTER, ya know? Because the goal of this isn't just to get it done...it's to get it done RIGHT. To actually have it representative of the vast majority of the FDs out there.

You actually brought up a few very good suggestions. Included in them were: 1) We need to get more people involved, including Nopistons, and 2) To throw up a link on RX7 Vendor webpages...that's an AWESOME idea if you ask me. 3) The "death" list lol. But seriously...that's real important too. Not just a retired/junked car, but even a salvaged one. I'm sure it would be helpful if the Registry had more detailed info on the car's history so potential buyers would be able to find out if their car was previously totalled, etc.

Pugg, your point is well taken. We should see if we can post all 50 states, and have one or two people sign up to take responsibility for gathering the info from their DMVs. I'm in VA, and I'm going to email my DMV a letter much like Railgun's and see where it goes.

Just an FYI.
I'm the one Railgun ( christian ) mentioned who is doing the site.
I have it about 90% complete and hopefully we will open / launch it this weekend.
But keep the suggestions and concerns coming, it can only help.

The functionality of the Registry portion of the site has just about all the functionality that RotorMotor suggested.

Here's a teaser screen shot of the the results when you search the registry for 1993 model year cars.

the info there isn't the same as what was asked for in the sticky... what gives? what info do you guys actually want? lastly, i'm not trying to be a *****... so please to be offended... but is there any chance of getting a picture of an unmodified (stock) 3rd gen (maybe even an R1 or something) instead of the current header? just seems like it would be more appropriate... but then, its your deal, not mine.

it looks really good though... but again, what info do you actually want and what will be displayed?

any chance this is going to be apart of the RX7Club.com webpage just so we can keep it all together?

I don't have any affiliation with rx7club so I can't answer that. If they want to work something out then we will see where that road travels.

All the information is in the database and available just not on that page. The page shown is the initial search results screen. From there you can drill down to a specific car to get all the details. The website also has a form for you to enter your own information which has all the same fields as Christian asked for in the thread. I have added a bunch of the users cars to the databse that replied in the thread as well.

The website's other "key" feature is an image search engine that lets you search exterior / interior / engine bay shots for certain parts. For example if I want to see what a RB dual intake looks on a 93 montego touring I can fill out a search form and search the database and get back the images that match.

The header changes or is randomized, right now I have the one you see and a cool image of the RE jgtc car, I can certainly throw in other users cars or a stock FD. I think both christian and I intend to please the population as a whole with this site / info so as long as the suggestions / requests are within reason then I don't see a problem.

The initial info requested was to that we can get a start on it. As far as specifics, I'll send out an emailing to update with the rest of the info. As far as what's displayed, I may talk to you jsplit to only display the serial number from the 2 on. The info here that's on the forum will be deleted once the new site is up. This is in the interest of restricting viewing to owners only.

AgentSpeed and others, I hope you'll provide your info when this is complete. What I'd like to have is a complete list of all VINs and those owners would go to the site and register. You're VIN would be already there, you would just make the association with your info. This is an ideal situation, and I know it's never going to be exactly at that point, but it's something.

The information asked may not necessarily be all displayed. Depends on who's accessing things.

Shoot me an email and let me know how you want the vin done. Any way is quite simple just a 2 second code change.

Jsplit (didn't catch your name?) and Christian, you guys are doing an awesome job. Thanks for everything.

Pugg's idea of integrating this into the forum actually popped into my head when I saw the bar on the top of your page, Jsplit. It would be a real great and smart way of really getting the Registry going...new members are asked to fill out their info when joining, and exiting members can get a periodic PM asking them to join/update their info. Of course, if you guys prefer to keep this as a separate entity, that's fine too. It's just an idea.

I'd have to talk to Ryan about that. If that were the case, I'd like to restrict it here too. Since it is a public forum and anyone with a (__________) can see everything here, it wouldn't be great. This is to alleviate any security concerns. We can keep the sticky up to forward everyone to the other site. I'd hope that he wouldn't have a concern.

If some of the mods have ideas or suggestions, let us know.

Well the sticky is something that should stay.
There are a zillion ways for the mods to actually help out with including something in the registration process if they choose to do so. I could certainly hack up some vbulletin code to either allow for the registration to be entered on rx7club and then email to a parser on my site so it can be added to the database.

I don't know any mods on here especially ones with the willingness or "pull" to do something like this.

The only downside is that with an affiliation with rx7club would alienate nopistons and others so it would certainly need to be planned out a bit further.

The other alternative is to do essentially what adam does with his cheap bastard intake and just lurk around and anytime you see someone say "I just bought a new fd" direct them to the site and get their info.

Sorry for my slow *** reply. I am pretty sure I popped my motor Friday night so I have been a bit distracted and not working on the site this whole weekend.

Anyway I could use a couple people to test things out on the site and help me make sure everything works and what not. So Ramy and RotorMotor if you're interested hit me up with a PM and I will get you set up.

i'll help test out the page if you need someone else to look at it... i'm notorious for finding errors in the programs we use at work... so much so that before anyone releases a new version, i normally end up hitting it for about 6 hours and find almost all the bugs that are left just offering.
