PLEASE READ, could my new fuel pump be bad, or bad gas??

Hey guys, I recently put my new Walbro 255 fuel pump in and the car died on me one day, it just shut down, when I tried to restart it, nothing, it just acted like it was out of gas but I just filled it that day. So I checked all the fuses, they were good, had my mechanic pull out the pump and he said it was fine but there was some connector(white I think he said it was) that was the problem because when he had the connector sitting just right it would run but the second he bumped it the car shut off, apparently there might be a short or something?? We are going to order a new connector tomorrow and overnight so I can get to the ASpec Grand Opening this weekend but he said he could rig it up so it would at least run. Well I went to pick it up and man, its not running good at all, when you get on it its like hitting fuel cut, HARD, it holds you back and if you stay on the gas while its doing it it starts backfiring badly, could this be that he didnt rig the connector up good enough, could the pump still be bad or any other things to look for, could a tank of bad gas be the cause for any of this?? I have just been having way too many problems lately and MAN its frustrating but I really appreciate all your guys help so far. One more time, please guys, last one I hope.

I thought I read recently about how some of the tuners have experienced early failing Walbro pumps. could be the culprit

Thats what I was thinking too, how do a test a pump to see if its bad, just listen to it, I can hear it running so does that automatically mean its good??

Thanks, Steve

Oh and does anyone know what the name of that white connector I talked about earlier and what it does.
