Please help with PFS Computer
I just bought a 93 rx and its got a down pipe, high flow cat -- actually think that the cat has been gutted so think its now a mid pipe, and pfs cat back, pfs purple computer, pfs medium ic, pfs cold air, and power pullys, well the thing is running rich to the point it makes me get headaches and ****. Also lots of pops, about everytime I left off the gas or back on the gas, or mostly at low rpms, sometimes at high rpms, Is this normal and I'm just going to have to live with it or is there something that can help get rid of the pops and fumes, I've had the o2 changed to a stock one and the plugs changed to 2-7's, and 2-9's, Is there something else that might be causing this. Could it be the ecu, when I unplug the pfs computer it rolls out puffs of black smoke, when I plug it back in with menu 100 idel set to -20, it seems to be better but still pops and has fumes all over the place. Does anyone have any sugestions.
I am running a similar set up.
I have my idle fuel (menu 100) set at -14%. It runs a little bit better at -10% for my car, but I always get a lot (lots) of flames when decelerating/coasting esp at 2000-3000 rpms. At -14% I get popping and flames infrequently, and at -12% quite a bit.
I don't ever get black smoke, except when associated with huge flames under WOT and shifting at close to redline, but then there are flames several feet long.
The fumes will always be there without a cat. The smokes actually burn your eyes. I have not dyno tuned my car, but my A/F gauge (for what its worth) shows a very rich condition, but I hear that the PFS is tuned quite rich.
Have the maps been changed much?
I am running 4-9's.
Hope that helps a bit.
Mike

. As I said your brakes are fantastic. The suspension needs work. It's very nervous going around the 2 left-handers, 4 and "Dead Bear" hence the massive drifts coming out of those turns! Does it have upgraded sway bars?Get better tires too! Pirelli P-Zeros are the ticket!
The power band in your car is very strange. There doesn't seem to be much power below 4500 rpm. But once we hit 5000 rpm, I seem to get all of it (hence the massive drift out of "Dead Bear"!) Did the guy before you switch it to non sequential operation?
Also the car bucks something fierce. Very unsettling when it happens at turn 4 (fast left hander, remember that one?).
Your car is also lacking power. I'm able to hit 122 mph down the straight in my car, yet I only managed 110 mph in your car? Best I can figure is that I'm coming out of Turn 10 much faster in my car, then in your car thus the speed difference. Still, I don't feel a nice steady push in the back in your car like I do in my "all stock" car?
BTW, your clutch might be going as well. Clutch engagment happens way up the clutch pedal travel?
All I can say is, there is somthing very wrong with your car. Have a compression check done. Make sure you're between 7 and 9. Pauly can do this for you at AIM.
Find a stock main cat, and run off of the factory ECU. You need to assess the health of the motor and turbos, and fix those, before you can tune the PFS.
I knew a previous Rx7 owner who also had a PFS setup. His car made over 300 hp, and did not pop and buck likes yours does. I suggest you contact him (Phil Gray, pgray64@home.com).
Work closely with AIM and Phil. You'll get this worked out. Be patient!
Good luck!
Best regards,

I went through the same thing when i installed my gold box.
you are running TOO rich in the PT settings. you need to reduce the fuel in the PT settings. I have gone from lots of popping and backfiring to ZERO popping and backfiring. you will also notice a big difference in acceleration.
i sent you a PM on this

Thanks for the response guys, SleeperR1, went to 16th st today and talked to shane and should be getting the care in there withing two weeks. So we'll be able to go all over it and replace or repair whatever is nessacary, Quick inspection as you saw is that it is running way to rich. I had to raise the dropping of the clutch to 3,200k when I took of so I wouldn't pop and bog out. But after that not a problem, just need to get the thing on a dyno and tune it. Cant wait to see the bill for dyno time.
I get a lot of poping sometimes too. Usually just one loud one when I let off the gas, or if the car has been idling for a while it will backfire a little untill I get going.
Hey anyone want to post their maps? I would like to check them against mine. I have the purple box with intake M/P D/P C/B
If you could just post fuel and timing at max boost that would be great
10lbs 2200+% 4000+%6000+%etc
12lbs2200and so on
Thank you very much.
