Question please Help!

my issue: my water temp gauge does not work in the dash so i replaced it(pain in the ***!!) the needle still does not move i do know the red light works for low coolant(fluidyne radiator swap)--and i thought it might be the sensor itself but the temps read good on the power fc commander i'm assuming the power fc reads off the stock sensor because i have no aftermarket water temp gauge other than pfc would anyone know how to remedy this situation?--i do know that the factory gauge is pretty much useless but i like having everything in working order on my 7 so please do not respond telling me to get an aftermarket gauge---Thanks in advance---Ryan

sounds like the connection between the gauge to the sensor. Maybe some one can chime in how to test it

Unhappy bump

anyone know?
things i know so far:not the gauge installed new one(pain in the ***)
my power fc reads temp of water perfect so i don't think it could be the sensor or could it?
would it be possible that the gauge is not getting any signal in between the power fc and itself? please if any one knows how i could test this it would be appreciated!!!

rx7walker,

I love this forum! Rynberg was good enought to scan the body and electrical section of the factory service manual. Do a search for the link.

In the troubleshooting section C 1-10 it was the flowchart to work out the symptom "water temperature gauge does not operate".

Try running through that to see if you can find your problem.

It sounds to me like the gauge is either not getting a signal form the sensor, or the ground is no longer good on the actual gauge. Since the gauge is new, we can assume (although I hate to assume) that the gauge is fine. We can also asume that the sensor is working since your Apexi is getting the signal. I really think that you should pull the gauge back out (don'thate me) jump it to a known ground and then check to se if it works. Hopefully someone has a better solution but bad grounds account for a healthy percentage of electrical problems and are often the most overlooked. Peace and good luck.

Its gotta be a broken wire from the gauge to the sensor,,if the power FC reads the temprature correctly it cant be the sensor, because the power FC reads the same sensor as the temprature gauge on dash ,,,pull the wiring diagrams out of the service manual, then use a testing meter to check the wire behind the dash to the wire at the sensor behind the thermo housing i bet you anything its broke,,,,
