plastic piece inside door lock

the little light up plastic piece inside the lock was cracked when i got the car, it was only a matter of time before it fell apart completely. i used tweasers to fish the pieces out of the lock, but now i have this gaping hole directly into my lock... anyone have a similar problem?

Of the many I've seen I've never seen one cracked or missing but I've seen plenty where the light itself no longer works, including both sets of mine. I still need to investigate fitting the LED's I bought into them.

yup happens to everyone.

robrobinette has a great write up for a repair. I have had it booked marked all these years and still haven't gotten around to try it yet.

I had the same problem. Mine fell apart - I made a new shield out of a piece of a big "tyrap" - I just filed it to shape.

I pulled out the lock mechanism, disassembled it, and installed my new piece (I had to spend some time fitting it so it would work perfectly). It's been in there for several years now.
