If you go talk to some devoted Ford & Chevy guys, try asking them what worth they would place on a Ford car with a Chevy engine (or vice versa). You'll find they are a lot more uptight about things like that then this crowd.

As far as the value of an LS1 to a 20B, that's not really the same comparison. The 20B is at least from the same manufacturer. Kind of the same thing as the above statement: Chevy guys would be more than happy to have a different/better Chevy engine dropped into their car. However, do you think the Vette guys want the Ford GT engine in their car? Don't think so.

Go back even further and you'll see plenty of Fords w/ Chevy engines. You just arent looking old enough. '32 Fords and other non-Chevy's of the era pretty commonly have chevy engines in them. It made more power than the flathead Fords of the time, was more reliable, etc. Sounds familiar

You guys are all talking Fords and Chevys; this is a Mazda. Fact is the collectable car world is American, Italian or German. You can count the number of collectable Japanese cars on one hand (and no, an FD isn't one of them).

Sigh.... Never said it couldn't be done... There is always a better engine, doesn't mean everyone wants to use it. If you went to purchase one of those '32 Fords, I'll bet the one with a Ford engine would bring you more money than one with the Chevy engine (regardless of how much better/worse the engine is).

99% of the FDs out there would be laughed at by any collector. Obviously, the car is not a "collector" unless it is original, and an LS1-powered car wouldn't qualify.

As far as general sale value, a properly-done LS1 swap will command serious money. Keep an eye out for one from Tampa that will soon be for sale (not mine). I don't know what his asking price will be, but I don't doubt it'll be in the 30s. The LS1 market will be considerably more broad than the rotary market. More potential buyers will drive up the price. It's a pretty simple concept.

My 2cents in the argument is the v8 rx7s especially 3rd gen's are wanted and respected by almost every other car community out there... go on supra forums and they love v8 rx7s, go on ls1tech and they love v8 rx7s..., I think every community has embraced that the 3rd gen is 1 sexy car... and with a ls1 engine it has many convinced.. When it comes time to sell your v8 rx7 you have many more buyers in my eyes.. becuz every1 is so scared of the "rotary" etc and the ls1 give them confidence.... just my 2cents

I did some pruning.....keep this thread clean guys and on-topic. NO V8 vs rotary debate or personal insults will be tolerated. The V8 vs rotary debate has been hashed out to death. This thread is about the value of the V8 FDs. Period.

I sold mine (LS1 swap, CARB legal) for a LOT more than it would have gone for with a smog legal 13b.
