Pills? Wastegate? Help please!
I have my engine apart right now and gonna be done with the rebuild by next week.
I have rebuilt both turbos, done vacuum hoses, and doing a street port before the rebuild.
I will have an intake and downpipe with all this and a few other members have recommended modifying the pills for the wastegate and pre-control or something. Also, they recommended porting the wastegate to eliminate the boost creep.
Anyways, I've seen Rob's site and still I'm quite confused. I understand that you are replacing the pill with a valve to control the boost. Are you putting a valve on both of those hoses?
Also, I changed those hoses not knowing anything might be in there. I have a '94 so I might have them in the nipples on the primary turbo but not sure what they look like.
So my questions are: 1) not removing those will make it impossible to lower boost? 2) if so, and restriction is in nipples how do i get it out and what am i looking for? 3) so how do electronic boost controllers work? they tap into both those hoses? from what i see they only tap into the wastegate actuator hose and adjust boost there, so what happens with the pre-control?
I've searched around and understand a little. Just need some clarification. Thanks!

To drill out the nipples you can simply remove the elbow from the compressor housing ( it is press fitted- use some vice grips) once you take the elbow out you will see them if you look directly down, it will be a smaller hole then the diameter of the nipples ,then stick a drill bit in the nipple and simply drill through till the drill drops down (you will know when to stop).
If you have an exhaust you will need to do this mod because drilling out the nipples allows more air to pass through that line thus lowering boost. When you put a manuel valve in that same vacuum line you will be able to adjust how much restriction is in that line. Closing valve=more restriction=more boost
Also be sure to drill out both nipples because the other nipple is for the prespool. If you are running sequential turbos and have an exhaust/ intake you will need a valve in there too to adjust how much airflow is going to be in that line aswell. The prespool line restriction determines how much exhaust is diverted to the second turbo before it comes online. closing valve=more restriction= less exhaust diverted to second turbo. if this valve is fully open that means that a great deal of exhaust will be diverted to the second turbo before it comes online and when it does come online you will see a HUGE boost spike up to 15-17 psi even. so be sure to start out with it closed fully and open it untill you see a boost spike. once you see the spike its time to close that valve a little!

Well...I looked in the elbow and nipples and there's nothing in there at all. I guess I must have threw them out with the hoses I replaced.
So now I need to do manual boost controller or else I run 7 psi right?

Put a new pill in... I just had my engine street ported and because I didn't have an ECU I took out the boost pill to drop it to 7 Psi to be safe. On my boost gauge it reads 8 though. I replaced all of the rubber hoses with silicone and kept the pill to put back in. Holley carb jets are the same thing and can be found at places like Advanced Auto etc.... hope this helps
