Mod the absolute shit out of it. Enjoy it so you can justify the price you paid for a 13 year old sports car. I understand it is rare and is a low mile car but if you drive it regularly and the mileage breaks 30k it wont feel so "special" anymore and you are going to be wondering why you have left it stock all this time. If you are a car collector maybe I can understand but I will be damned to show up at a rotary meet or any car meet for that matter and my 13 year old car that cost over 20k is one of the slowest cars there. Just my opinion.

Sorry guys but I just got home from work and I'm going to send the pics over to ErnieT's and he's going to put them up for me. I'm on my way over his house as we speak to give him a hand on his car and then we'll post the pics up.

Thanks to all the kind words and I'll be back later on to answer some of the questions asked earlier.

Thanks,

Joe

jic 07-21-05 07:05 PM

wow...now thats nice
wish i can find a cym in mint and low miles...

prew 07-21-05 07:16 PM

if you are gonna keep the car forever do whatever, mod the shit out of it and enjoy it. but as others have said if you are planning on selling the car in the future i would keep it stock. since so many people mod these cars, low mileage stock cars will be impossible to find and worth alot more than modded.

after looking at your other cars in your profile. you should get a pearl yellow 3kgt vr-4 spyder, how many of those were made like 8 or 9?

amp 07-21-05 07:29 PM

no reason on keepin the car stock if your intentions are for keeps....
havent quite figured out yet what the fascination is about on a low mileage rotary...
imho.. id rather have a low build number than mileage...

SRA-FD3S 07-21-05 07:39 PM

hey just put the new 99-02 y-pipe on and k&n filter and call it a day

1234rotor 07-21-05 09:12 PM

Do black silicone rat's nest, new hoses everywhere, EVANS NPG coolant, a downpipe, and call it a day.

These cars will really be a collector car one day, I don't care what anybody says. The FD is a true to form sports car, and a rare US model. Being that it is a CYM R1, it would probably be the most sought after of the 1993 models.

I could just see it on Barrett jackson 2025 going to an avid rotary guy and being preserved for another century or two......

I hope to one day own a like new original FD that i can store in my garage and sit in. Then take it down some back country roads in the mountains and enjoy 1990's (canyon carving) technology at it's finest. =)

RX7 RAGE 07-21-05 11:08 PM

WOW, that color is so vibrant! It looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor!

manny34711 07-21-05 11:24 PM

Mint!

Neo 07-21-05 11:26 PM

God damn!!! So mint!!!

I didn't think there would be FD's out there that were put away like that!!!

I wish I had a bit more cash lying around... I would definately pick that up!

Congrats on the purchase! She truely is a rare find... I would definately keep it stock... with the small reliability mods.. no more than the AST, Rad and Downpipe... That'll be more than enough to keep her rolling as stock equipment! They're pretty simple mods to do and you can put the original parts back in if you ever decide to sell it... Crazy to sell it though!!

Lates,

7_rocket 07-21-05 11:43 PM

Why would you keep it stock if your going to keep the car for a while?

92 FD 07-22-05 12:03 AM

beautiful car....can I ask what you paid?

I disagree that bone stock is the best option....bone stock is NEVER the best option with an FD, because these cars are a ticking time bomb bone stock, and I know someone with a low mileage CYM....nothing but problems once he hit about 40k miles

do the reliability mods, including dowpipe, AST, radiator, vacuum lines, etc....it will not decrease the re-sale value as long as you don't go nuts, and the car will be last alot longer before your first rebuild

BC-FD3S 07-22-05 12:12 AM

You car look gorgerous. I still remember when I picked up my 26K miles 93 R1 few years ago. The car still smelled new at that time. With a car like that you really hard to resist not modifing it.

I think when most were saying leave it stock, they meant as in Power Mods, not in skirting/avoiding reliability mods.

Why does everyone feel any near-mint FD should stay stock power? 255hp and a high 13 second quarter mile isn't as impressive nowadays, it was great for its time but it's been surpassed. I'll admit it, my near-stock FD is slow.

Even if you keep it at 19k forever, it's not like it will run good 10 years from now...

Unless you are NOT going to drive it, ever, and just store it for 20 years I'd say go mod happy....

Thanks BigT, I took the advise of a couple pm's I got and setup a photobucket account and just downloaded the album onto that website and will provide a link to all the pics. Just a note the interior has not been cleaned at all and the carpet is dirty so I'll have some other pics of the engine bay detail and interior detail hopefull this weekend. Getting to some of the questions presented earlier and some of the pm's, price of the car, I paid 25K for the car. It came from North Philly and it was heated garaged kept and it shows even more so after today and I'll explain. I took the car to get a Maryland inspection which passed with flying colors by the way ;-) and had a chance to take a real good peak at the under belly of the car and boy what a site. The bottom of the car looks jsut as clean as the top side believe it or not. I could not get over how clean the car was and that it reminded me of my both of my '98 Quicksilver Supra's which the first one only had 5K original miles on it and my current '98 Quicksilver has 22K miles on it. All the rubber exhaust hangers and all the boots and aluminum are perfect, not bad for a 13 year old car, huh? The verdict is still out on whether or not to mod the car, hold onto it and find something else to mod or sell it all together to a collector or someone who will take care of it. If anybody is interested in a *mint* CYM let me know...;-) you'll get a one of a kind I promise! Thanks guys for all the feedback and I just downloaded the whole lot of pics onto the photobucket website so you'll have to go to the 2nd or 3rd page to just view the pics of the CYM on its own or just scroll through the pics and enjoy some of my pride and joys and I think there are a few pics of yours truely in there with the biggest stud known to man Big ErnieT, he's the one holding the bottles in his hand and making those all so funny faces like he's go something stuck in his a**, love ya PERM!

ROTORhead93 07-22-05 04:01 AM

Damn, after seeing the pictures, all i can say is that thing is damn perfect. Keep it as stock as possible, but do the reliability mods, get a little bit more power out of it, and leave it at that. That thing is pristine, please keep it that way. Once again, congrats.

EVLFD 07-22-05 09:55 AM

 defenitely keep it stock! you should build a showroom with a rotating platform and leave it on display for the next decade. :bigthumb:

AMRAAM4 07-22-05 12:29 PM

Holy mother of Christ!! I thought Ernie's car was in great shape. No offense to anyone else here, but that may be the cleanest fucking RX7 I have seen in my life.

BTW, if you keep that Supra for a while longer perhaps I would buy it off you at a later point in time. If someone would take over my damn GTO SmartBuy I'd buy it now!!
