Pics of Greddy Elbow with Stock IC

I decided to post these because when I did a search a while back I couldn't find any. I got the elbow for Christmas, but I had to order the couplers and clamps to do the install, so I just now got it installed. Install was easy, I still have to plug the AWS pipe with a cap though, going to do that today. The only issue I had was getting the couplers to fit just right without having the IC to Elbow pipe pop out. As you can see, the coupler on the elbow isn't pushed all the way flush. It is solid though, you can shake the whole car if you grap the pipe and give it a shake.

Hope this can help someone else out in the future.

the elbow looks great, but you know it is ok to clean your engine bay.

a wire brush and some rim cleaner will do wonders on your UIM.

This is a picture of my engine bay back in the day after cleaning the UIM and spraying the rest of the engine.

The large gauge clean red wire is a new ground put on when the reman went in, the other red wire is to my water temp gauge, haven't had chance to put a shroud cover on it yet. Yeah yeah, I know I need to clean the engine bay, but I have been focusing on maintenance rather than making it look pretty.

As for the Y-Pipe, that's actually next on my list. I'm still waiting on hard intake pipes my wife ordered me for Christmas. Hopefully I'll get them soon.

hey section8... nice pics... I like the elbow. Besides looks, what else would you really gain from the Greddy elbow/pipe, with a stock intercooler? Just wondering... if there is a real gain, I might consider getting one too.

you lose the abilty to have the AWS...section8, did you take the UIM off and completely remove the system? Just from the pics it doesn't look like it, judging by the coolant line to the TB.

You no longer need coolant running thru the TB...some say it will heat you intake temps. I have know idea how much this will effect them...

I put a 5/8" rubber cap on the hard pipe that the AWS hose was attached to, fixed with a hose clamp. I didn't know that it was advisable to get under the UIM and get rid of everything. I'll do some searches on removing the whole setup along with stopping the coolant through the TB.

Thanks for the info.

As far as what the elbow does with the Stock IC, in all honesty other than deleting the AWS and looks, I'm not sure if the flow is better over stock or not, but I at least don't have the stock rubber hose and plastic elbow anymore. And yes in the future I will upgrade to a larger SMIC, but I'm going suspension / reliability route mainly now, and this was a gift after all.

I just like to be thorough...why have a bunch of junk under the UIM not being used.

I don't know if unplugging the solenoids with trip the ECU or not...might wait until you get the PFC or something?!?!

OK, I just noticed that your coolside pipe-to-elbow is right up against the strut bar (like mine, with the r1 bar). Over time, I think it's gonna start bending & flattening if we don't get a torque brace

Yeah, it's a tight fit. I'm actually wondering if I should remove the brace.

I have the same problem and was wondering if it would cause any problems over time.
Where can I get a torque brace from. There was some on ebay a while back, but I have not seen them in a while.

I believe you can get them from rx7store.net and rx7.com.

hahah! I'll probably never buy an aftermarket BOV, but I do like hearing the stock BOV

I'm surprised no one notice the steel pipe and cap on the air box from where I broke the nipple off and had to fix it

Well I drove the car for a bit today, and my *** dyno tells me it pulls harder during secondary boost, but I really think i'm just imagining it, I can't phathom that this elbow would increase power that much.

Oh, I asked for a Y-Pipe, along with a bunch of other stuff! My wife sent out a list to family of all the stuff I wanted, my father-in-law got me this. He was going to get me a 4 pt roll bar, but the shipping would have cost almost as much as the bar and he couldn't afford it (i don't blame him).
