I was wondering what everyone had heard about the gold comp., has anyone used it, has anyone blown a motor because of it, is it easy to program, etc.? Thanks

I would stay away from all of the PFS PMSs because it seems that many owners have experienced compatibility problems. However I have also heard that the gold is better than the purple in this respect but the purple does have better boost management. Adjusting them is easy... if you know how. Personally I wouldn't use one unless it came with a warranty... for my entire car. Just kidding, well maybe.
I had great results with the purple box. Ran it for 5 years/12,000 miles with no problems. I even used it for a year with a single turbo (with additional injectors and an AIC). Too easy to tune. Only downside is that it'll not deal with larger injector too well unless you manage to keep the same ratio between the sec and pri.
If you can get a good deal on one and/or on a budget ($500 range) for a computer, I would go for it. I have been running a old gold box i bought used for a while now and have no problems. The car runs smooth and I have good data logging on the laptop. Your other choice, on a budget, is remapped ECU, which is really just a ballpark map. with something like a PMC or PFC, you can tune to YOUR specific car.
As for the boost control issue, I got a good deal on a used profec B.
If you have $1300 for a PFC and controller, yeah, go for it. Its like the difference between the old 8 bit nintendo and 16 bit super nintendo. But still, the gold box does get the job done, and did sell for $1000+ new (and still does, i think).
