PFS computer tunning help

The PFS computer came with my car when I bought it. I would not have purchased it myself, but right know I don't have enough money for something that I am more familar with. I have a T-61 turbo kit that I am ready to install on my car but I am not sure how to tune the computer. Can anyone point me in the right direction? It is an older purple box. I don't think that it is able to be upgraded.

I've been using the purple pfs for 6 yrs. works great with the twins.
Don't know about using it with a single tho.
If when you turn the car on, it displays 1999, you have the latest version.

Go to www.fd3s.net for info on setting it up.

You don't have the money NOT to upgrade.

Sell the PFS get an Apexi PFC.

Sell the PFC for $350.00 and buy an $800 PFC. You have to come up with $450 vs $5500 for a blown motor and maybe a new more because the apex seals trashed the turbo on the way out. Oh and then you still have to buy a new computer.

Pay a little more now or a LOT more later.

There is nothing inherent in the PFS purple box that blows engines, only uneducated guesses at tuning it. So Red Racer is asking the right questions in what should be the right forum for useful feedback... no need to panic and go buy a PFC, as they must be tuned too.

The PFS box does have the capability to specify single turbo, but like any programmable ECU, you will want to have it tuned by someone knowledgeable for your car and your particular setup.

If you can't afford that at the moment, I would keep your twins and run the current/base maps until you can.

As was mentioned, fd3s.net has the documentation online, but don't go experimenting blindly or you're asking for trouble.

Look here, http://www.wvinter.net/~flanham/wlanham/

This is the best info still available in the three years I've been looking. Other than on this forum of course.

I agree with Zullo. Mr. Rx7 TT just infered that as soon as you hook a PFS PMS up to anything you will blow your engine There is nothing wrong with a piggy back computer like the PFS if you are using the stock fuel system, which you did not mention. You can use your hand held controller to select single turbo application and stand alone application. That would be a start, then get a wideband guage. Start doing test runs really rich and gradually pull fuel out and increase/retard timing.
Or, if you think the maps are all jacked up send it to PFS to be reflashed and start from there.

Not the case. I tuned and ran a purple PFS for 6 years as did 5 others here. They all worked PERFECT and the cars ran great, on the TWINS.

A few people have used the PFS on singles but it doesn't have the resolution or the tuning parameters that a PFC does because it's old tech and a piggy back not stand alone.

Why do you think everybody always sells their PFS units when they go single? That includes Peter Farrell who marketing the unit straight from Doug at EFI systems who manufactured the units.

Call around to reputable rotary tuner shops and ask what they think. It's your motor so get your cash ready if you use it.
