I recently installed a blitz fmic and moved the radiator and I am now noticing that my pfc water temp gauge is acting very weird.

First: when I turn the car on it will count up to the coolant temp(before it would just be at the temp) for example before it it would be like: key on, temp 79c and now it is like: 1,2,3 ect. Also sometimes it will read -35 and then it will catch on after a second(with car off after a drive).

Second: Once driving the readings of the pfc water temp gauge seem to be fine. Consistently gets warmer until about 76c then slows down and moves up a few more degrees, sitting temps will raise gradually. BUT I have peek hold set up and it is working sporadically only on my water temp on the pfc. I also monitor a few other things and their peek hold works fine. It will read the peek sometimes and other times it will just be -----.

third: car seems to be running colder than before but this may be due to more water than coolant than last time.

Any input on what would cause this would be great I dont believe it is the sensor since it was working fine before this install but yet I cant think of what I could have done to make it do these things, thanks.

Also where is the location of the sensor that sends to the ecu?

 

I had the same problem and changed the sensor, it is located behind the water pump housing.

 

sensor may be found on p. F-169 of fsm. That is really strange on why it is jumping around so much. Very odd... My only thought at the moment is may the connection is loose or maybe the sensor all of the sudden just bit the dust... Although I am not sure how you could have bumped it with the fmic install.

 

great thanks guys! I will try replacing the sensor, well if cleaning it doesnt work. btw what is the correct name of this sensor? also will I have to drain the coolant to replace it?

 

go to etc --> sensor/sw check on the Commander. it will show you the voltage reading from the sensor.

 

What will this tell me? I checked it and its at 1.76 while reading 32c but seems to be working at this point so maybe it is just loose. I will tear into it tomorrow and check the sensor and see what I find, thanks.

 

Did you completely burp the system of air?

 

it will tell you if the signal from the sensor is going crazy or if the signal is fine but PFC for some reason is displaying improperly

 

No I am not completely sure. I did the standard procedure but I have driven it three times and each time after it cools I check the coolant level and it has dropped like 4 inches in the filler neck, so I have been topping it off. Is this normal? I have never done this before on any car.

 

Ok I understand now, I will try and be quick on the draw when it happens so I will be able to eliminate(hopefully) the pfc, thanks again.

I opened my ast today and my water in my filler neck dropped, I closed the ast then burped it and then did this again and it did the exact same thing.

Does this mean air is in the system? Or is the coolant just going into the overflow tank?
