Is the PFC a waste of $$ on a stock FD
I've searched and found that the PFC is 16 bit vs 8bit and lets you fine tune the car to run much better. I was wondering if its a waste to install on a near stock or stock FD? I just want my car to run better hopefully with a more advanced ECU controlling everything.

Never waste of money..
To upgrade your EMS.
its worth its weight in gold just for the
gauges, peak hold and the play back.
btw.. it'll get rid of your 3K hiccup also..

For a stock or near stock car, there's no real reason to go w/ an aftermarket EMS if you're not seeing more than 10 lbs. of boost. The stock ECU can handle a lot more than you think:

Running smoother with a PFC is just due to the higher amount of bits in resolution smoothing everything out. You can moniter an amount of things with it if you get a commander. But you're talking about $1-1500 of an upgrade JUST to make your car run smoother. Are you planning on modding your car later on? If you are, then it's not a waste. If you are planning to stay stock, then I suggest you just fix whatever problem that you are having and not get the ECU. Many people get the PFC in the beginning to have in the back of their mind to be safe for future mods. Like what I did. But if you DO get a PFC, I'm pretty sure you won't stay stock for long .

Whether it is worth the money or not depends on who is spending the money.
However, it does make the car run smoother generally and gets rid of the 3000 RPM hesitation. On the downside, it isn't strictly legal for emissions in some areas, but in reality I doubt it would be noticed. I would consider it for a stock FD, especially if I had the 3K hesitation and/or planned to do more upgrades later.

It's really up to you. You'll gain some nice engine monitoring read outs and like the others have mentioned your car will run smoother.
Do not put one in without getting it tuned by a professional with a conservative AFR. Once it's well tuned you'll also gain some power.
Even at stock boost a PFC can blow your motor fairly easily with a bad map. Believe it or not the base map on a PFC might be leaner with more advanced timing than your stock ECU. IMO the stock ecu is very safe at low boost levels.
Bottomline: if 1200 plus another 500 to have it tuned isn't much money to you then definitely get one. If your living paycheck to paycheck HELL NO save it for your next serious repair bill.
