Pettis alum AST vs. M2 AST By-pass??

What are the pros and cons of both of these mods? I like the idea and price of the M2 unit, but will eliminating the AST create other problems?
Thanks

FYI, I tried to order the M2 elmination kit a few weeks ago and I was told that it has been on back order for about 10 months.

i have the m2 elimination kit, no problems whatsoever. ive heard that it is the same thing as going to a junkyard and getting a filler neck from an fc. i think it shows it on one if the how to sites, possibly rob robbinettes site.

I have the Pettit aluminum AST on my 3rd gen. I haven't had any problems with it so far. I've only had it for about 6 months though. I have a friend who has had one on his 3rd gen for about 3 years and hasn't had any problems with it. Now for the downsides. You will probably have to have a custom braket fabricated for the AST. Pettit claims that it bolts right up in the old place, but that isn't quite true. If you look at the bottom of the AST their is a rod that goes inside of some kind of rubber holder (I'm not sure how to describe it) which then sits in another bracket with a hole in it. (Sorry, I'm having a hard time explaining the setup). At any rate the rod does not sit in this rubber holder/braket combo far enough to be considered solid/tight. I didn't like that and so I had a braket made to make it fit properly.

The other downside is that the cap that they give you doesn't necessarily release pressure at the value that is written on the cap. I don't think this is Pettit's fault though. I checked about 3 other parts stores in my area and their caps did the same thing. The only place that I found with good caps was my NAPA dealer. So I would advise you to find a mechanic/friend with a radiator cap pressure tester. I hope that all of this helps.

My opinion is that by eliminating the AST you also lose a good amount of coolant in the system.

really? I dind't have any probs installing my petit AST. I've had min since summer, works fine.

I want to get rid of it though. Just to clean stuff up. Anyone want to trade me a elmination kit (or the parts necessary) for my pettit AST?

I went to a local u-pick found a FC took the filler neck and o-ring and did my own "elimination kit" thats a joke what M2 is asking for there kit. What you could do to increase water capacity after ast elimination is to add a small radiator from hose were water flows out from thermostat housing to hose that goes back into lower part of the radiator.
