Pete and I driving the VIR N course

This is the last session Sun and I finally had some room to roam, lots of old e30 type cars so traffic was a problem for both of us all weekend. Tires are on day 4 so basically used up but good enough to still have fun on.

1st open lap is a 1.36 followed by several 1.37s in light traffic.

Car is feeling great!

Will put up another vid with some interesting stuff happening in t3 as a result of an oil spill and also a full write up in my track video thread.

PS Hopefully Pete will add some video

Nice video! Look forward to seeing more from the two of you.

What level group is that, instructors? Is there that big of a difference in speed and handling between the E30s and a track prepped RX7? I know your skills are awesome. Have you ever driven an E30?

Looks like a blast! I finally hit the track last week at Pitt Intl. with my FD with all new suspension bushings/pillows/steering stuff and man what a difference. Now i get what all the hype is about. Wont clutter your thread up but as JC said, what a machine!

Thanks David,
We are driving in the instructor group but as you know we are in some really well prepped cars that have a power to weight of approx 8 to 1 so most everything on track other than corvettes, vipers, GTRs, GT3s etc.... will seem really slow.

I drove a spec miata many years ago on the VIR N course and that's about as close to an E30 as I've come. I recall running approx 1.47 laps in the SM car and my best lap on the N course in the FD is a 1.34 so that's a 10 plus second difference which is huge on a sub 2 minute track.

Yep, we had a great time!

Glad you are letting your car off the leash so to speak. These cars are made to run

Always great to see you and have fun in the new Jag, Audi or whatever you end up with

He took it for a test run and decided it would be OK. I was gently nudging him though hehe

Awesome. I'm still late in 1, 3, and 16, and you're still 2-3 secs/lap faster than I am.

I only got one good vid, and it's the one w/ all the traffic (C'MON, MAN!), I'll get that up ASAP. Best of the weekend, a 1:37.5 on FRESH Hoosiers, really though, mostly 1:39.x on a clear track.

Yep, it's truly an exceptionally fun car to drive. Pete took it for a few laps and he concurs He was driving it harder than he drives his own car because he felt so comfortable tossing it about.

17 laps in on a hot day and pulling out a 1.37 is NO JOKE, GREAT lap!

I recommend a little earlier into 1 w/ a little trail and possibly hotter if the car behaves. Slightly earlier at 3 using more inside apex and more outside track out to allow for earlier/more gas application. Slightly earlier at 7 with more speed and trail brake in. Turn back sooner after Stevie Wonder to avoid going to far down into that off camber section. Love the 4 wheel drift through 1 the 2nd time around. Your car control is outstanding

YES, lots of "c'mon man!" and "are you effing kidding me" moments with the traffic situation.

Yep, Pete has those babies setup well but his AITs were a bit high when it was 90 out (approx 67c) compared to my 50c or below. Twins are really hard to deal with when the ambient temp goes up.

He's boosting about 13 psi (twins working hard) and I'm boosting 10 or 11 on a t04r (barely spinning). I'm easily making 20 more HP as well. I put in a new boost gauge and I was only boosting 9 psi so I turned the boost up to 11 and the car feels a lot stronger.

LOL

thanks man!

Here's the vid with the oil slick (go to the end for the slip sliding away)

Looks a little less dramatic in the vid. But I was sliding like crazy under braking trying to avoid the car in front me etc.....

That's some scary stuff. I was at Summit Point when someone dropped either oil or coolant going into turn 10. It was a NASA race and i wasn't running, but one car after another went off at that turn. What's truly scary is not going off, but knowing that everyone else that's on your line will probably be following you
