Peeling the top layer of the hood insulation

Searched but most threads are about removing or leaving the hood insulation material.

As you can see from the pics below the top/black layer of my insulation material is peeling off. I can't get one from US, because of the size the shipping will cost a lot so I am wondering if it'll be ok if peel off the black layer of the material and trim some of the damaged yellow material.

I don't know if the yellow material underneath is something like hay and without the black layer if it'll fall or peel off easier.

Next step is trying to find a stick on heat insulation material but for the time being I would like to know if this will be ok to do and if it'll last.

can't you just get some super glue to re-attach the end that is peeling to hold you over until you decide on a final solution. I don't think ripping ALL of the black liner off would be a good idea as the insulation will probably start to crumble and end up all over your engine bay.

I would recommend just removing the stock liner and going for some of the new materials available today. Something like this:

Practical but ugly. Mahjik's solution is probably best for you.

Doesn't the stock hood cowel also help with engine fires? In the event of a fire I read that it detaches from the hood.

Thanks guys, tired of answering ppl asking "what happened to this" each time I open the bonnet.

Mahjik, thanks for the link, I'll look into it, if i can have it shipped here at a reasonable cost I think it'll solve my problem.
