Paint selection - Feed FRP side steps

Hello all.

I've got a set of shine auto feed style side steps in fiberglass.

I'm having a horrible time trying to decide what to do with them. At first I thought I'd rattle can them, but now I'm having second thoughts. I think the hardest part is I don't know what color I want so nothing sounds like a good idea.

I know I want black of some kind. My car is a '94 chaste white touring. Its got a '99 front lip and an r1 spoiler on it, but other than that its stock appearing.

What do most people do with the FRP side steps? I almost think it would be easier to have the carbon ones and just run them bare just so I wouldn't have to make a decision

At the moment I am leaning towards having them painted at a body shop a medium-gloss black with some clear over it. Before I was thinking of a flatter textured rustoleum paint and doing the lip, side steps, and the rear valence to match. I was thinking this because the paint is very durable and cheap...and the parts are pretty much on the ground. If I had the sides painted at a body shop I would leave the lip and valence stock.

(not my car, fantastic build though everyone should check it out)

This is the paint I got to try. Its a little more sparkly than I thought it would be and I don't have the guts to just spray one of the parts and try it. I can't get a good enough idea by just holding something up to it. My car also isn't moving at the moment so I can't get it out into the sun.

Thanks for any input you guys have!

most people i know with the FRP version keeps the original look without painting them. It gives a nice factory OEM feel

that's not a bad idea...I hadn't thought of that before lol

How they look now is pretty much how I would have a body shop paint them. I'll have to clean them up and see how they look.

I sanded and painted mine with Trim paint from the local autoparts chain. It's a flat black color more or less and matches my 99 front lip pretty closely.

I got mine painted gloss black at a body shop. I don'thave a stock bumper, so I don't have a lip that I wish to match. I kind of wish I got the carbon fiber instead of frp.

Anyone that painted theirs have some pictures? I'd love to see a few options. Mine have a couple nicks in them that I doubt you'd see on the car but I know they're there!
