Paint for Restoring Stock Front Strut Bar?

I have a stock Mazda R1/R2 front strut bar that is scratched-up and I want to restore it to the original factory colors.

I would like those who have done this to tell me the make and colors of paint they have used to match the factory red and silver on the strut bar.

Thanks in advance.

We used some paint from a VR Touring. Looked great, I don't know if it is EXACTLY the same color, but it was close.

A couple preparation tips. Use paint remover and strip it to the metal. Drill out the rivets that hold the "RX-7" tag on. They are just pop rivets, reinstall after the paint is cured. If your tag is scratched up you can buy a new one for ~$36 from the dealer.

Chrome the R1 bar ends, they look awesome that way.

Jeff,

Do you recall how much it cost to get the bar ends chromed?

In your picture it looks like all of the attaching nuts and bolts are also chromed. Did you get the originals chromed or did you replace the originals with aftermarket chromed parts?

Thanks,
Ray

Hey Ray,

It is the original hardware, I like the original stuff better than the aftermarket. I can't tell you how much it was just to get the bar ends done. At the same time I got throttle body linkage, alternator pulley, alt hardware, alt belt tensioner, bar ends and all other related hardware and some other misc stuff done.

I get a pretty decent deal on this type of stuff through a local shop since I do a fair amount of business through them. Turn around time is slow though.

If you want I can get hardware I have chromed and when it is done I can exchange it with your stock stuff. Once it is chromed I recommend only using 6 point sockets, 12 point sockets can crack the chrome.
