requesting paint code for 93 VR, i cant seem to read mine off of the fd.

Thanks guys and any tips or advise on getting the fender and bumper painted?
What do i need to look for or ask to make sure the paint shop is legit and knows WTF they are doing???

thank you gents, NU followed by a series of number i thought??? I guess not.

I'm having issues with some shops not willing to paint the two fenders and front bumper skin off of the car
Lazy *** bastards, I know that it's much harder and more work for them to do it off of the car but, come on. I'm will to paid the difference for the extra labor.

 

You'll save money if you take them of yourself and bring it to them, should not take you more than 2 hours...

 

+1. The FSM has very good instructions on how to take them off. I can take apart the entire front half in less then 30 minutes, but I have done it quite a few times. Only the rear bumper is a pain in the *** to take off. I really do suggest bringing the pieces to them disassembled. Any good bodyshop would disassemble them anyways, so you are saving on labor. This way you know all the nooks and crannies get painted and don't have to worry about overspray either.

+1 in fact Kai. I will be taking the old fender off along with the 93 bumper and installing the 99 stuff once i get it back from the painters.


I have already pulled the right side fender off for the painter to use for the color match process.

If you look in the thread, it mentioned NT as well. Seoul when you bring the paint code to the painter, they should be able to tell you what each color is composed off. After that he can tell you the subtle differences between both if they are indeed different.

 

Most shops will want to paint and blend the adjacent body panels so that the new paint matches better to the adjacent panels.

I think Charlie in SD had a nice repaint done on his car somewhere in Mission Valley. I don't remember his forum name though or if caredden is the same Charlie I'm thinking of that I ran into at Seven Stock last year.

 

IIRC, the only difference in the US models for NT/NU was clearcoat or not.

 

I am going to have to disagree with you on this Kyle. I have had an NU car and my car now is NT and the color is very different the NU is much more orange and the NT is much darker and "reder".

 

According to some non-factual sources, the "red" was altered later in the Mazda years but the color code was not (the "famous" '99 spec car that was featured in a magazine also noted it when he ordered pre-painted OEM 99 spec parts). There definitely were 93-95 cars shipped with both paint codes and the were the same red.

 

there are 2 versions of nu. one is a tri color. base/toner and clearcoat. this will run you about $400 for base/toner and reducer. the second nu incooperate a tint with the base. this runs about $250 for paint and reducer. both must be clearcoated. i just repainted my fd. i will post pics soon

I think Michael has a good place lined up for the paint job, but he is concerned about overspray. He intends to take all the parts to the shop disassembled to ensure a good spray, and he is willing to pay the extra money for the additional attention to detail necessary with this type of painting.

I think most shops just want to paint on the car for a couple of reasons: to match adjacent panels, and allows them to apply pressure on panels when sanding.

Hopefully he gets this sorted soon so I can see the awesome finished product!

 

^^^on the money CAREDDEN and i am paying a lot more for them to paint it off the car than i had anticipated

Before taking the JDM fenders to paint i even took the time the prep the fenders by sanding/taking out any dings for them.
Also removed the oem vents to avoid over spray.
