Be interested to hear if the regular one fits ok. I guess I'm gonna order the 280hp dp. You get tracking info?

 

They gave me an update today. the 280hp dp has a 4week lead time. Keep you posted when it gets shipped. I'll post up pics, dimensions as well take pics of the fitment and will test out US spec heatspec for fitment!

 

Got the downpipe today (N3G1-40-500B)

Took measurements of the outlet, its a 65mm pipe. Overall, quality piece as you'd expect. Heavy. Theres a heat wave in the bay area at the moment, so I'll wait for it to cool down in the garage before I tackle the swap

 

Nice. Good turnaround, too. I'll try to get some similar shots and measurements.

 

So I notice that the top part of the JDM DP has a couple of threaded bosses, and the heat shield does not extend to the top most section with these bosses. I just looked at the JDM DP on my FD and it also does not have a heat shield on the top section.

Was this an extra part back in the day that never got installed,the #N3G140810A heat shield?

It's a discrete (not part of a larger parts set) p/n installed from the factory and commonly lost in service. AFAIK, it was never-not (always) installed.

 

I just tried fitting the US spec downpipe heatshield, does not fit. Holes don't line up and the physically doesn't fit the footprint either. I'm going to look around for a used one.

 

I bet you could bend something out of sheet metal?

 

Yep, its a pretty simple piece to fab. If i can't find a really inexpensive used one, I'll make one. Temps are back to normal here, so if i get some time this weekend, I'll start the swap!

For my mostly stock FD.
Before I do, any solution for the NLA heat shield (N3G140810A)?

Best solution is to buy a used type-5 front pipe from japan :/

 

I have a N3G1 heat shield off my 2002 car you're welcome to, not sure what the international postage will be but probably not too bad. This is the top section of the downpipe near the o2 sensor yeah?

 

bump. never pulled trigger in covid.
now committed to finding the JDM OEM DP + heatshield.
i searched the nengun website for both to no avail.
any ideas where to buy?

Do you specifically want a brand new one or will a used one work? Once I can find a Knightsports downpipe I'll be pulling mine off

The heat shields are NLA.
You need a JDM version. The early JDM heat shields seem to fit on the late JDM pipe without issue.
You can find the heat shields used, or buy a used pipe which has all the shields. The new pipes do not come with the heat shield.
