P\S Removal
Was looking for some feedback on the streetability of an FD after the Power Steering has been removed. The motor is out of the car so it would be an easy change but, I can not really try it out and see at this point. Just seeing what others who have done it think.
After e-mailing Howard Coleman for his opinion I'm going to try the loop system myself. I trust his opinion, being a long time racer, I don't think he would drive around with a sloppy steering, if that is what the looped system really provided.
I looked at the workings of the rack and all I am planning to do initially is to unscrew the two hardlines from the mid section of the rack itself. Those connections lead to the opposite sides of the power assist piston. Drain the oil into a pan from the pump and move the steering back and forth to eject the oil from the rack. Put some temporary breathing cap over the disconnected rack connections to prevent dirt entering (use a paper towel, rag..etc with a rubber band) and go drive the car and try it to see if I like it or not.
If I don't like it, all I have to do is reconnect the two connections, fill the pump, turn the wheel back and forth to eject air from the sytem and good as old.
If I like it I probably would just build a permanent breathing cap over those disconnected connections on the rack and plug all left over openings at the steering box. Seem to me to be a better solution than looping at the steering box because that way you're still pushing some oil or air through the resistance of those hard lines, through the loop.

anyone price mavel lately it was 180 for the conversion yet i heard someone said they got quoted 260... so i guess pricing is going up? once i get my motor back and i put the rest of the money into the long block assembly i will price out the mavel guys.
