IR impact wrenches own!

I tried it with a "cheapy" 1/2 drive impact and nothing happened. I bought a nice IR impact wrench and that sucker comes right off.

Yep. Used one to torque the flywheel nut back on. It wasn't mine (I don't have $1000 to spend on a single tool).

HMMMM, do those tools work for loosening as well?

I wouldn't hit the drive wrench with a hammer, but using it with a steady pull may still work really well. I could borrow one of those from work.

Are you replacing the flywheel? The new engine cores come with the flywheel attached, so no need to take it off if that's the situation.

yup i spent about a hour tonight tryin to get mine off, and no luck. i have air, but i am leaning towards the fact that i just have a shitty impact. i bought a 30 gallon air compresson tank from sears and it came with a impact and it didnt budge that damn nut. now i either have to go buy a new impact or find another way to get it off, o and by the way im trying to get it off with the engine out of the car.

Ingersoll Rand is your friend:

I have one of these and with 500 ft lbs of torque my flywheel nut came off in about 10 seconds.

Yeah, I bet you were given a shitty IW with that set fo air tools. They usually come with cheap-*** $30 IW that claim to have 230 ft/lbs of torque. I couldn't eeven get my LUG nuts off!

harborfreigh.com has a 625ft/lb IW on sale for $72 and free shipping!

Any good impact gun that puts out 500 lb-ft should do for this nut. They spun off no problem last couple of times I tried.

If you got issues with the flywheel nut, good luck with the opposite end of the eshaft.
