If your stock temp gauge has moved past the halfway point (usually keeps on going up.) Hard to tell what damage has been done till you correct the problem that caused it to overheat then monitor the engine for other symptoms, hopefully there won't be any.

Cooling seals start to melt above 225, I was told. If your bone stock the AST can crack, hoses can go bad.
You should be running distilled water 60%, 40% coolant. If its overheating it, dont drive it !
Save time and money and get a aftermarket temp gauge. The stock one sucks and when the add coolant light goes off it may already be too late.

Hard to believe the seals start to melt at 225 when the stock radiator fan switch to kick into middle (or high with a/c on) speed doesn't even trigger until 226 degrees. Having said that, cooler is better for longer engine life.
