Overheated???

got a 93' 5spd touring, 101k miles. I found out i had a coolant leak in the radiator a couple of days ago. and as long as i kept coolant in it it would not overheat, and it only leaked during start up or when cooling down.
anyways one night i new i needed to add fluids and wasn't paying attention. my friends car had a dead battery, so i pulled the 7 out to jump his car. and the temp started climbing. it climbed to the H, so i put my car in 1st, and drove it because usually it will go down if i start driving. but it didnt it went to the red before i said forget this and shut the car off. I guess it was to late though because when i shut the car off there was a line of coolant coming from the street and my engine was bubbling pretty good, or it was the tank or something,

anyways i put the car in the garage, the next day started it with no fluid for a couple of seconds just to see if it ran. it sounded alright but there is like a squeeky whining noise in the engine bay. just wondering if it could be a pulley or belt or something because there is no coolant or fluids in the engine. My friend said he thinks it could be an apex seal scraping the side of the chamber, of course i don't wanna think about it though.

I took my radiator in to fix it, not to bad, the bottom tank was broken, somehow, the guy said you cant break a bottom tank by overheating it. so idk, but only 75$.

anyone know anything about the motor though, i hope i didn't waist my time if the motor is no good, btw it ran fine except for that sound.

There are several threads on the forum about tests to see if you have a coolant seal failure. If you "really" want to know, take the car to a shop (just about any place can do this test) and get your coolant system tested for Hydrocarbons.

The shop can also pressurize the cooling system. This will show if there is a leak in the radiator, water pump, ect...
