Talking OverBOOST - what is safe?

So I read some of the replies on what is a safe boost level, with stock IC and Silicone lines. The question I have is that what determines a safe boost level?

I have a 93 FD Auto Trans, M2 Catback and M2 Downpipe, with RB Cold air intake. I am running 10-8-7 on the turbos. I want to tweak them to 12-10-12, but I want to know what the limitations are to be safe and what I risk. I have an (Gasp) Autometer Air/Fuel Guage. After the mods, I am running at the line between Stoich and Rich whenever I give it any throttle. Since I'm running rich, am I safe cranking up the boost levels?

The car runs sweet, ate an M5 for dinner recently but was a light treat for a 93 911 Turbo, not by much though!!! Next time, I plan on leading the 911 home instead of the other way around!

What d'I need to get the job done?

Thanks.

on the stock ecu more than 10psi is not safe

It gives fuel cut at 12psi at some rpms but you can't really control boost at each rpm without some crazy boost controller and then it's probably very dangerous.

Try tweaking the boost to 10-8-10 or get an intercooler and do the 10-8-10. The user damian on this forum has some threads on how he smoothed out the transition so he gets an even boost even in sequential so maybe search for that. That's about all on the stock ecu before it starts getting complicated and dangerous. Your car should be very quick with just those mods. I wouldn't at all recommend a high flow cat or a midpipe because you WILL have some problems with boost control it's just a matter of time depending on temps and gear you are in. Also the intercooler may raise your boost so make sure to lower the boost after getting that. You should get a manual ball and spring valve to control your boost or you can make one yourself like I did, it works great.

Thanks for the detailed info. Damian's write up's were a GREAT resource. I haven't done his tweaking to the turbos with the ball spring valve yet, but looks promising.

If 12-10-12 is your ultimate goal, get an M2 ECU but don't forget the boost controller!

I'd love to be able to get an M2 ECU however my problem is mine is automatic. If I want a chip upgrade, no one sells one. I was told I'd have to go with the PFC from Peter Farrell or the AEM module.

On my automatic i used HKS PFC FCON for 3 years with no problems. I had mid pipe and i spike to 14 and never seen a lean conditon. I shoot flames all the time during hard acceleration. You can pick them up used cheap. You can by mod chips from HKS for $50 to what ever your set up is,and it also has a fuel cut defencer. I bought mine off a guy that bought a PFC and he had the fcon on his rde for 4 years with out a problem. This would also be a good choice in my opion. I bought mine for $250.

Get the PFS purple piggyback computer and take it to the rotary tuner. Its the safest way and they come by cheap.
