Orange connector on Solenoid

Is the orange connector at rear (closest to firewall) of the 'rats nest' the Fuel pressure regulator solenoid?
If so, could this NOT being plugged up be the cause of my smelling fuel when on high boost?

Yes, it is the FPR solenoid connector. If you are not using the solenoid then you need to run a vacuum line directly to a boost source so that the FPR can change the fuel pressure. However not having the connector on simply bypasses the ECU's ability to adjust the fuel pressure. The default for that solenoid is to blow through the top nipple to the FPR not the filter on the unused port. If you are smelling raw fuel, I would check the FPD on the primary rail for leaks.

Thanks BlueTII. Are you saying it COULD be the cause of my smelling fuel?

Not really, check the FPD on the primary rail, this has a nasty tendency to blow out.

Take the UIM off, and jumper the fuel pump at the diagnosis box. The ground that typically goes to the UIM will have to be grounded to get the FP to run. You may want to supply pressure to the FPR with a mitivac if it is a small leak that is only happening under boost.
