optinal armrest question
just wondering how you guys put in the optional armrest in your ashtray slots.
for those who just bought the real mazda ones from daioni i got mine in the mail today(brand spankin new oem mazda) it wouldnt fit in the ashtray location because the armrest bin is a bit too deep. so i need to cut out the bottom of the shifter panel to make space for the armrest kinda unusual question..but just wandted to see what people did to make it fit |
 Mine just dropped right in.. Weird that you had to cut away to fit it.
Mikey |
well the shape of the armrest is the exact same just doesnt go all the way down no matter how hard you try to push it in. and btw spirt rotary...does your armrest open from passenger side or on drivers side?
|
Opens from the passenger side because I am JDM y0. I am still surprised it did not just drop in.
|
yeah i was pissed that it wasnt just drop in. the clips on my shifter panel looks like it wouldnt hold onto the bin anyways...
|
well after GB them and selling over 50 of them I would say your the VERY first to have this problem, weird..
Any pictures of your spot where it goes, along with how your installing it meaning the door. It is a tight fit, and you might have to go for or aft with it, but hummmm |
Actually, they don't fit perfect in a LHD. They were made for the contour of a RHD shifter panel, so they have to be made to fit.
|
well, i guess its not supposed to go "all the way" my armrest seems to pop up a bit on the left which is a RHD's passenger side. maybe hdp is right, it fits, but not perfectly.
im happy with the little raised side. no harm done and it keeps in while i open the bin thaks for all the help guys |
Mine fits just perfectly...no probs whatsoever

Mine fits about 97% perfectly. It sits fairly flush, but has that ever-so slight fitment issue becasue it was designed for the LHD models.
But overall, it makes driving the car so much more enjoyable and actually makes good use of that storage space!!! A must-do mod  |
Anyone have pictures of it opened and closed? Thanks.
|
These are the same armrests that are sold on rx7.com correct?
|
yupp
i got it to fit...happy enough no need for it to be PERFECT it might be a bid spaced on the other side since the lid needs to open all the way |

Wow! I had ZERO problems with it, and it fits perfectly. After I put it in, I just opened up the lid and pushed down around where it should seat. Fit no problem. :)
|
should be a perfect fit - or at least very very close to it. They are a little tricky to pop in - so don't give up too quickly.
I might do another GB soon if enough people are interested (they are direct from mazda japan - not copies). |

they are US$85 (though the next one will be strictly paypal in yen) - that's delivered to your door in 3-6 days via tracked ems. I haven't seen copies for that cheap! Individually, they would be a fair bit more - but GB makes it worthwhile for me
this is the view from the passenger side - you can see that it is slightly raised - this is due to the hinge (otherwise it wouldn't open!) http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/pho...ium/fdarm3.jpg (btw JT - the price from mazda has gone up about 1000yen) |
|
|
and in a totally unrelated pic, this is my new s8 bumper with amemiya lip (and yes, for now, s6 ducts...) :D

Looks good!
Anywho, if you start another group buy, i'll definitely be in!! -Alex |
ME TOO~!! :bigthumb:
|
Ehh, I don't keep my hand on the shifter too long though. I'm too cautious with my FD, got to keep both hands on the wheel. Haha. :D

the armrest is great
cheaper than the replica ones online i was hoping it was mazda when the package came...brand new oem mazda wrapping:D |
yeah - direct from a mazda dealership - there's no mystery to it.
as for the possible fit issues - it's obvious some people have a problem, some don't. I personally don't think it's a LHD/RHD issue, but the difference between version I consoles, and version II-VI. I'll elaborate on that tomorrow. |
DaiOni---Sucks on the price change.
As for fitment, I had the cool light just like the models in the US, but yes the contour is a little different, but I have seen some of my customers rides in person and it looks like the same fit we have over here, just the door is backwards. |
hmmm, I still haven't gotten mine yet. Has everyone else gotten theirs?

okay, now I am all confused. If I do get one, I will probably get one off of RX7.com. Now, my question is, is the one they sell there for LHD or RHD? Will I have fitment problems then too?

i got mine on saturday |
scrub - your armrest arrived in the US on friday (according to the tracker) - so it can't be far away.
|
no worries mate :)
|
DaiOni, your car is incredible. The lip looks very good with the 99 bumper. :bigthumb:

If you play w/ it a bit, it WILL fit. I and others have posted that they have zero fitment problems. There are no versions of this...all the armrests are the same. So again, you may just need to wiggle it around a little until you get it to fit properly.
Oh and just outta curiosity, the others who have no fitment problems, what year is your FD? Mine's a 94... (curious if there's a pattern re: fitment in 94s and 95s) |
after looking through everything...it drops in fine but the the drivers side has a LITTLE gap, wont even really be noticed. dont worry about fitment issues..like what fdnewbie said, just play around with it and youll get a good fit.
and there might even be a little difference between the shifter panels too. i have a 94 also..but no idea how people with 93s had it fit |
When did this group buy happen that i didnt even notice?
|
its been bout almost two weeks already
daioni said he might get a group buy on the armrest and he actually came through with it hopefully he can still get some more for you |

It wasn't in the GB section, but the parts section - originally I intended to sell them individually, but the price of the copies is so low - that I had to GB the originals. I'm not sure about the quality of the copy - I've never eyeballed one, but the OEM part is, of course, perfect.
If there was going to be a fitment issue, I would have thought it would have been with the earliest production run (type I in japan, 91-93 - I think those are all plated 93 in the US). I originally tried to order the part via a honda dealership that I work part-time at. They said that it wouldn't fit, and that I'd need the whole console section. I checked with JT, and he gave me the parts #, and the reassurance that it would work. So I went direct to the local mazda dealership and got the part - which fits perfectly. In hindsight, I wonder if the honda dealership thought I have a type I (I have a late 93 - one of the first type IIs). Anyway... that's my little story for the day. |
oh, and as for the possibility of another GB. Definitely in the future, but maybe not for a while. I'm moving 1000km south next month - so all parts 'services' will cease for a little while (until I'm settled, and can work out where the closest mazda dealership is!)

Mine doesnt fit at all. I just get it today and went to drop the armrest in his place and only 3 corner on 4 go flush to the center console. I'm really disappoint....Someone have a solution ..... ?????
|
Mine fit nicely. Not sure what the problem is. It does open away from the driver.
|

|
NoFear99,
