one piece coolant fill neck.
I was looking to eliminate my ast with a 2nd gen filler top when i look at my coolant fill neck and noticed that its all one piece. whats the deal?
The later thermostat pump housings are one piece. You have to get your hands on an earlier thermostat housing, they're 2 piece so you can bolt on the FC radiator cap pedestal.

-OR- You can modify your single piece housing by drilling a hole in the top portion of the filler neck, just above the pressure seat, to receive a short length of 5/16" steel brake line. Press it in (swage it if necessary) and fix it with aluminum solder--yes it does exist--it's primarily zinc. You can also use straight zinc solder. (Be sure to protect the seat and keep the drill off of it.)
You will of course need to put a real pressure cap on your newly completed housing. It uses the same cap as the AST.
Works for me and it looks completely factory.
