Angry ok, THAT WAS SCARY! my engine runs now!

so, I've been doing some work to the car, opening the intake, doing the brakes and brake lines, change PCV valves and some vacuum lines, as well as a few new ground wires. I also changed out two couplers and replaced most of the clamps for better clamps. And I get the engine back together and started and it runs very smooth, get the car up to running temp and rev it a little and runs really well....... THEN DOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the engine dies and won't start. NOOOOO!!!!!! I cry!!!!!!!.... I run through everything that I touched, couldn't find the problem... the engine would fire and come close to starting then just...... shut down. So I pulled the battery, checked my grounds and looked at my TPS and MAP making sure its all still plugged in..... and well it is. at this point I figured the Gods hate me and I screwed up the ECU or some electronics.....

On a whim I unplugged the MAP vacuum and tried to start the car, it sputtered and ran... bad, but ran.... I let it run like that for a while, and then plugged the vacuum back in, and that engine settled down........ I sang Lowrider to the Gods, shut off the engine and started it agian................. starts great and runs smooth.

All I need to do is finish bleeding the brakes and take it for a drive and test it. I'm very interested in seeing how the grounds I put in help out. In my old FC it made a HUGE difference.

stock ECU going through the relearning process?

Did you try disconnecting the battery, tapping the brakes, then reconnecting and starting? I dont know if the stock ECU is adapting or not. so this is just a WAG

By disconnecting the MAP vacuum line, you allowed additional air into the intake during starting, correcting for an over-rich/flooding problem. That's probably why it started. Then the disconnected MAP sensor told the engine that the vacuum was low, and made it run rich - that's why it ran badly until you plugged it back in.

Glad that worked.

ya basically DaveW is right, that's why I tried it, it would acting like an air/fuel problem, and after trying to disconnect the battery tap thebrakes, dance, and turn the key 10 times and that didn't work, I figured I needed to find the dead electronics, luckily I decided to try the MAP first... I am happy now, I can't wait to get it on the road to go drive it.

Sadly though...................... this morning I found out I have to find a new place...... :-( and I am considering moving out of the area, which means maybe getting rid of the FD....
