I've searched the threads and found answers to some of the questions, but cant find out how they are interconnected if possible. I was driving home today, and on the way home, i was parked at a light and the check engine came on. at about the same time +/- 2 minutes or so the oil pressure dropped to almost nothing. when i got home i checked the code, and its throwing code 16, which i know is the EGR (i'm not in cali so i believe this to be irrelevant, and code 13, Pressure sensor. I wasn't in boost, nor was i at a high rpm. I turned the car off, and then back on, and the light went off, and hasn't come back on since. Could there be common denominator, or are there just multiple problems? I plan on checking the pressure sensor tomorrow. I havn't started the car since i got home, since I'm afraid of damaging the engine due to low eoil pressure. Any advice?

check your oil level, check for any visible leaks.

Is the oil gauge still reading low even though the check engine light is now off?

 

They're unlikely to be caused by the same problem. Try cleaning the connector on the oil pressure sender, if that doesn't help you'll need to replace the sender, they are known to fail often. Clean the electrical connector to the MAP sensor and reset the ECU.

i checked the oil level and its full, i havn't seen any visible leaks, and yes its still reading low and the light is off.

when i opened the oil fill cap while the engine was hot there was white smoke down in the fill neck is this normal? its probably not something people really look for, but i would appreciate if someone would check their running engine and see if theirs does the same thing.

 

I think the smoke in the filler neck is normal, I've seen that on my other daily driver cars quite often.

I think it Gadd is more on the money here about the pressure sensor failing and that's causing the gauge to read incorrectly. Check the connections, sometimes they get corroded (with age).. so either clean or replace it and what Gadd said. But if there is oil then you should be ok to start it normally if necessary.

 

alright man i also noticed that when i started it today to check it read fine alittle less than 60psi and when i drove it to the store and when i started it again it was reading around 30psi or whatever the line between 60 and 0 is, i would guess 30.
