oil leak question
oil leak question
the person working on my car says that im not losing oil from the pan and that the leak is up on the actual engine . its not near the turbos he said . so is there some seals that are busting lose?
The back of the motor would mean a rear main seal or a stationary gear seal leaking.
The driver side could be the oil filler neck, the oil sending unit, or the oil filter. Anyone think of anything else on that side that could be leaking?
On the front of the motor it could be the oil pump?..... I am sure there a lot of other things it could be, I am just not that familiar what that side of the motor yet
Since its not the turbo side that rules out alot.
Where is the leak coming from?

It is impossible for the oil seals or more correctly oil control rings to fail and cause an external oil leak. There are many places that these motors can leak. Common areas are the oil pan, oil cooler lines where they meet the front cover and oil filter pedestal, the o-rings below the pedestal itself, the oil neck turbo oil return lines, and oil injectors. More rarely you can have a front or rear main seal leak. It sounds to me like you need to take the car to someone a little more familiar with it.
