Oil cap has become hard to open

I notice that sometimes the cap is really hard to take off while other times its not. Lately for me everytime in the past month or so the cap is alot tighter than how I put it on.
Is there some sort of strange vacuum going on or is it simply the heat of the season?

Mine gets stuck on really hard sometimes also. You might want to go down to your Ace hardware store and buy a new O ring, (for 75 cents) buy one from Mazda (for $3.75) or not tighten it so hard to begin with.........just spin it until it stops.

DUDE!! your oil cap is hard to get off???!! You better be ready to fork out some cash for a new engine...that is an early sign of engine failure

Sike mine is hard as hell to get off sometimes. Especially with a strut bar that sits right in front of it.

The Rubber seal in the cap gets HARD w/ age and makes the cap hard to remove - get a new o ring - (this problem is NOT unique to RX-7s or rotorie engines)

I've had mine on so tight one time, I took a pair of channel locks and griped it and tried to turn it and it broke a piece off. Then I did it again and it finally came off.

I just dab a little oil around the threads and neck when I put it on. I need an o-ring for it since it doesn't even have one.

lol, thanks for the responses. I was feeling like a puny girl until I read that you guys are having the same woes. I don't have an ACe up here near me, but I will find something similar.

just go to sears and get one of those belt wrench things. Thats what I had to use once to get it off. I couldn't get my fingers on it....strut bar got in the way.

That's better than it coming off too easily. Last week I popped my hood to find that the cap was OFF and sitting behind the alternator....scared the hell out of me.
