Unhappy Oh Nooooo

Was pulling off the oil filler neck, a little metal ring dropped down into the hole.... into the block.....

Am I screwed? Will it just settle at the bottom of the oil pan? What should I do?!? I dont want it to chew up the inside of my engine

Try to use one of those magnetic pen thingy and see if you can grab it. If not then you'll have to pull the oil pan which is a PITA.

Try to drain the oil and see if it comes out. You could also use a big speaker magnet on the outside of the oil pan to try to drag the washer over towards the drain plug while you are emptying the pan.

The oil neck actually doesn't drop straight into the block. It kinda goes horizontal for a while. The ring would likely just be laying in there.

Otherwise if the ring is of somewhat significant size I wouldn't expect it to go anywhere. The oil pick tube for the oil pump has a screen on it with holes similar in size to your window type screens. I really doubt that it would get sucked into anything to cause damage.

I decided to just pull the oil pan anyways...

Tell me if what i did was really stupid,

To get the engine mounts off, I jacked the transmission slightly to raise it up. I have the car on stands but then I used the jack to raise/lower the tranny so I could pull them out.... I got all the screws off and the engine mounts, but I cant figure how the hell to get the oil pan out. Is there a way i can slide it out or do I have to remove the entire unter part of the car...
