OEM Wheel Texture and Refinishing

The finish on OEM wheels is textured. Is the texture part of the casting or part of the finish? Is it possible to retain the texture when having wheels fully refinished?

When I had a set of OEM wheels vapor blasted, the bare metal that was revealed was textured. It is funny you say the OEM wheel finish is textured though, I always thought they were more of a satin (between matte and gloss) smooth finish.

I believe the OEM wheels were painted. Repainting in the factory color with a satin clear coat should give the closest to OEM finish.

If you want to retain the OEM textured finish underneath, I would avoid sanding. See if there is a place that does vapor blasting near you and use that to strip them before laying down the primer. Vapor blasting will be less destructive to the original casting.

Props for putting work into the stock wheels. I did the same thing and couldn't be happier with them. There is nothing lighter.
