Odometer only works after car is started after sitting with a hot engine bay

Sorry for the long title, but I was trying to be descriptive. Ever since my car came out of the body shop, my odometer/trip numbers have only been showing up intermittently. I've noticed that the 3-4 times that it has worked has been when the car was run for awhile (enough to get under-hood temps up significantly) then the car was parked for a while (but not too long so as to allow it to completely cool), then started again. For instance, start the car in the morning (no odometer), drive about 30 minutes, park the car in the sun for around 2 hours, come back and start the car and the odometer is working.

Any idea what is happening? Something seems like it is heating up enough to make contact and register or something. I'll stop now.

Thanks for your help.

From what I've gathered, the only real problem with the odometer display is the bulb/bulbs that light up the display. It's either the bulbs or the circuit that switches the bulbs on.
