Odd smoking....

Ok, where to begin.

The car is a 1994 with 82,xxx miles on it (original motor and turbos). DP, Cat Back, M2 Large IC, BOV, Non-sequential, stock fuel, stock cat, etc..

It has been driving fine, not smoking at all since I have owned it. I took it to the Rotary Revolution...no problems the whole trip there or back. Drove around for a few days back in town after the trip...all was fine, never raced it, hardly boosted it, the car more or less just sat around for a few days. Then I went to start it up one morning...and **** tons of smoke. Looked like an ATF trick...a volcano of smoke out the exhaust, and it never let off for over 15 minutes. The smoke was a bit white, a bit gray, and a bit blue....everything but black, it smelled like gas, oil, and coolant....just a nasty stinky smell.

I have no idea why it just began to smoke like this....still don't know why. But my last FD blew a coolant seal and it smoked alot as well, was hard to start (this one just started right up like usual just with smoke), and after about 2 minutes or so my last FD had burnt through all the coolant pooled up in the motor and the smoke went away until I parked it for a few hours and then it would start to pool up some and smoke again on startup. It was also starch white, smelled like coolant, and made my buzzer go off....very obviously a bad coolant seal.

This one though...easy startup, the smoke never lets up, and is not just white, but every color and just plain stinks...not sweet like coolant, but a mixture of everything. The only thing I could think was that the turbos were shot, my old GSX did the same thing when the turbos went out on it, replaced the turbo and all was well. So I bought a new set of BNR stage 2 Turbos, installed a Greddy FMIC and Intake. Put some new plugs in it, and started it up today finally.

At first all was well....started up fairly easy after sitting for almost 2 months, no smoke. Cool....just was going to let it warm up, get the air out of the cooling system, and then go about my merry way. So I let it warm up, topped off the coolant, burped it some, and started it back up....it was all going well, then I noticed a bit of smoke, no big deal I thought....then the more it warmed up, the more it smoked....this went on for a while till I just decided that it was too much smoke, and that something must be wrong. But I don't know what.....I also replaced my PCV valve while I was replacing the turbos just in case. I don't know what to do....do new turbos smoke? Is this simply residue burning out? Should I be looking for a new motor? OMP? Stuck fuel injector?

Any ideas or concerns you may have, please let me know.

Oh....1 more thing, when it was smoking before I replaced anything I checked the coolant and oil, both were full...or very close to. Which with that much smoke, I really thought something would have been way low...but nothing was. I just don't know what else to do outside of replacing the motor, but I don't understand how it would just quit like that overnight....and to go out that bad....not like a little leak, but a hide the neighbors house in smoke leak.

Sorry this was so long...I am just confused and frustrated with all this.

Ok.....well, I went out to start the car up again after about 4 hours of leaving it parked. I wanted to see if any coolant/oil/etc...would build up and smoke on startup. Nothing....not a puff of smoke. Started right up, coolant and oil both looked good. So I let it sit and idle for about 10 minutes....everything looked good.

Then it started to smoke some...same stinky *** smell. Slowly got to be more and more...still nothing extreme, but more than I am used to ever seeing. I just wanted to let you all know that in case it helps some of you more experienced FD people diagnose the problem.

Also earlier when it first started to smoke today....it wasn't until after I revved it up some. I revved on it some to see if it would smoke, and it did....then it quit smoking for a bit, then slowly built back up again. This time I did not rev on it at all, simply watched it sit there and idle. It started right up again, no problem, and also idled dead on, smooth as can be.

Ok...well I think I know what it is/was.....residue in the stock cat from all the oil/coolant blowby when my turbos blew out last time. Because it doesn't start smoking for a whille....and I am guessing that it doesn't start smoking until the cat reaches a certain temp and begins to cook the baffles and all that **** that is on them....hence the nasty smell and mixture of all colors.

I took the car out for a quick drive, drives fine, and when I got back the smoke had more or less died down to nothing...just a hint of blueish/grayish smoke under the driveway lights....nothing much at all. I am going to just drive it around and see if it all will just burn out eventually or simply replace the cat with a MP and then just go ahead and buy a PFC while I am at it.

But, that is what I think it is....if anyone else has any ideas about it, feel free to post....don't be shy.....because I have just been talking to myself here so far...but hey, I think I figured it out....now I just have to wait for time to tell.

the oil control seals on the sides of the rotors got dry from sitting and there letting a little oil by them, and when it was sitting oil probobly seeped by them and when you started it the oil got pushed into the exhaust, but after driving for a while it should burn off, and the seals should soften up a bit and start working better.
