Well all... the downpipe came out yet again. I'm finally putting the Mazda gaskets on it. Problem this time is the O2 sensor wire broke, and the threads are all banged up on the sensor and pipe.

I have a new sensor in hand, and it seems to be 5/8x16, but I can't find a tap that size. I've found 5/8x18, but I didn't want to buy it if it was the wrong size.

Can anyone verify what the correct pitch is for the O2 sensor? I'd like to get this sorted out today if possible, and I didn't want to take it to a shop and have them tap it for the wrong pitch. Thanks.

 

99% sure it's 18 x 1.5 mm


edit: checked my thread chaser 18x 1.5 mm is correct.

 

That was part of my nightmare. I found a thread that fit it pretty well, and it was standard. I was really hoping it wasn't metric because I hadn't checked any of those.

I suppose I can make some calls tomorrow and see if they have the 18X1.5 in any of the "kits".

It boggled my mind that standard course was 10-11 tpi depending on who you ask, and standard course was 16-18 by the same standard.

Can anyone else back up the 18x1.5 before I buy a kit? No saying I don't trust Gadd, but I want to either see the fit of that thread, or hear from others that it will work before I throw my money at a set of taps. Thanks again.

 

Wierd...the plug that was in my extra O2 bung wasn't happy about coming out today when I was trying to install my wideband, so as I type this, I'm ordering a tap from MSC.

here's what I found. It's a cheap import, but I'll probably only use it once.

 

Most autoparts stores will have a thread chaser, Probably won't cost more than 15 bucks
