I was just doing some vacuum leak tests when I accidentally hit the O2 sensor wire and it pulled from the O2 sensor, Is there any harm in driving the car without one until I get a new one. Or could I some how re attach it. It kinda went right from the top of the O2... Not much wire there to splice back in or anything...

solder it dont splice.

most people wouldn't recommend running without your 02.
it tells the computer the amount of gas or air thats in the exhaust system and adjusts accordingly. so without it ???

EDIT: ^ To agree with the above statement, no one recommends not running it, however...

There's an option of the Datalogit to turn off O2 Feedback, so I assume you can run the car without the O2 sensor. It will run rough though.

 

There is an option in the PFC Commander (don't need FC-Datalogit) to turn off the O2 feedback, if you disable the air pump you should disable the O2 sensor.

I have been driving for a while with the O2 sensor disabled and base map on the PFC. No problems at all, but I have not gone past 5k RPM yet as the engine is newly rebuilt.

VegasFD, what do you mean it will run rough? My car is pretty rough at the moment with all the modifications I have done, so I was wondering to what effect you mean it will run rough without O2 feedback.

Installed wideband lambda O2 sensor from PLX today and will use that for manual/logged tuning of the maps on the PFC.

 

are we all assuming he has a pfc?? or are you just saying it can be done?

 

well i dont have a pfc, and i just needed to know if i could have driven it for a day or two until i get my new one..

 

I disabled it in the PFC because I thought it was the reason for some hesisitation occuring below 3000rpms, I've been running a few weeks with it off and with the airpump unplugged and the only thing I've noticed different is the car smells more like a rotary powered car I think thats the side effect of no air pump though...

Highly doubt it would cause any problems for a few days of driving besides slightly worse gas mileage or something....they go bad on cars all the time.

the o2 sensor does what it says. "senses oxygen" = o2 Sensor

no o2 = dead cat

general automotive speaking, NOBODY would recommend running without an o2 sensor. running without one would cause an extremely rich running condition and WILL damage the catalytic converter. your PCM will sense a short and think it's running too lean causing the injectors to pulse longer for more fuel. in the end, you're gas will be wasted and you will burn out your cat.

 

Well the gas thing will hurt, but thank god i dont have a cat.....hehehehe

 

fuel economy and a check engine light would be your only concern then
