not your normal transmission noise!

i have this transmission noise and it is not a normal throwout or input bearing noise i dont think...well to start off i started my car to go get some breakfast and i noticed it cranked differently it's really hard to explain it was still smooth cranking but it was kinda muffled sounding.so anyway i continued down the road and everything was fine i got onto a 50 mph road that was maybe 2 miles down the road and when i approached the stop sign i heard a unbearable noise.

now to explain the noise here we go:it sounded like a high pitch tone that was very loud. pretend you had a cd that just had a one high pitched tone onto it and when you put it into your cd player you turned up the volume the highest it goes that what it was like.this is the best i can explain it so sorry if it isn't good.

the car still starts but when i move up and down the driveway i hear a metal on metal sound like a ting ting ting sound it still shifts normal and the cluth still works fine.what could it be?
