hey guys, i replaced my fuel filter not too long ago and decided that i wasnt gonna pay the 100.00 or so for the stock unit. so, i looked into an aeromotive filter. yet again, 90 bucks. then i gotta get it shipped. no way. haha. i went to the local parts store and decided to see if they had any filters that might work. the parts guy told me that the only filter he has that fits my description is a purolator filter that fits on MANY cars. $6.
i figured id check it out. i bought it, went home and looked up the applications. it has 49 pages worth of cars that it goes on. several of them turbocharged, several of them big v-8s, and one in particular. . . it fits the jaguar xk. . . somethingorother. anyways, its the v12 dude. so i figured, damn. . . this thing has to be able to flow, and it has a metal casing so its gotta be able to handle the pressure. the filtration im sure is good, probably not as good as the aeromotive filter, but it does good for me at 6 bucks. the filter has threaded ends as well. i thought i was gonna have to make something to fit. . . but low and behold, the parts guy comes my way with the fuel lines that are SUPPOSED to go in there. theyre metal with a rolled edge for a rubber o-ring and the fitting is already on there. rock on!!!
i took the old filter off and looked at the bracket. the filter i got fits right in its place. oh man, that works so well. haha. i mounted the filter on the rear subframe. the fuel lines are bent in the way i desired and connected to the rubber fuel line that i purchased to finish up the job. that way i dont have to continuously take the lines off and put em back on. . . messing up the line in any sort of way.

i bought the parts at advance auto parts. the lines are about $15 and the filter was about $6. so for no more than $25 you can have an easily reachable, quality fuel filter that will suit your street driven needs. have fun!!!

oh yeah, i brought the filter over to david garfinkles house to ask him what he thought. . . he said, "well lets see. . .", then he ran to his garage, came back and said, "hey, this looks like mine". . . with a huge grin on his face. haha, hes been running a similar setup for over a year now, except he didnt know about the lines and made his own. gotta love it!!!

Good deal Paul, Gar did his 4 or 5 years ago, I remember he looked in the junk yard for the fittings before making his own . So we know it works for at least 15 lbs boost with 550 cc and 1200cc injectors ,40k miles later and no problems. Change the filter in 2 minutes .

i think i missed something. i thought your wrote that its a 100 bucks for a stock fuel filter. where are you shopping???? i just paid 34 dollars out the door for a new one at mazda. granted i do have a hookup, it shouldnt be more than 50 bones. fill me in here

my bad. . . i priced one a long time ago. i was informed on aim as well to the price. its about 50.00. this is half the price and turns a filter change into less than a quarter the headache. doing this means you dont have to change your fuel lines when you do the filter change. if youre like me, then youll have to cut the lines to get the filter out. . . and twisting and turning the hell out of them isnt a good idea either.
also, the stock filter is riddled with a horrible set of 90deg bends. who in the world wants that? the other filters lines are rather large so when you upgrade to larger lines you can just put those on there as well. its 3/8 rather than 5/16.

Gar is working 7 ,12 hour nights in a row . the chrome came back and he took 2 of the custom pullies back to the chrome shop . They were not right, you know how picky he is . Oh well .

oh yeah, i know. hahaha, how in the world do you mess up chrome? they always find a way with david. hahaha. i need to talk to him. i have a fuel leak on my primary rail and i need to get it out of the way quickly so i can be ready for steves tuning day in birmingham. i gotta lotta stuff to do. im getting 850s for the primary rail while its out. . . so ill need to find out how he "decked" his rail.

You connected the rubber lines (stock) to the lines you bought and then screw into the filter itself?
any pics on where you mounted it? I have an OEM filter that I'm about to install...and I definitely don't want to go thru what I did last time...so your set-up seems reasonable.

im sorry, but i dont have any pics available right now. the fuel lines that are MADE to fit the filter are simply straight tubing with a fitting and and o-ring. so i bent the tubing in a fashion so as not to kink the rubber fuel line that i run to it. when you are taking fuel line off and putting it back on so many times it tends to need to be replaced. also, when you are taking the stocker out, youll see that the stock fuel lines are horribly hard to get off the filter itself. i had to cut mine. soooooooo, you just run new line from the factory hard line (past the filter) back to the purolator fuel filter. then, from the filter to the fuel tank. very simple.
the filter fits easily inside the stock bracket. you can decide where you wanna mount it from there. i drilled two holes in the top of the rear subframe and mounted it there. easier to get to like that in my opinion.

I've been looking into this setup, that Purolator fuel filter is used on all kinds of vehicles, from '96 Hummer 5.7L to a lowly '85 Buick 2.5L , and is also used on the '03 Jaguar XK8 (4.2L V8). The Buick application makes me wonder if this is going to be a decent filter or not? I guess fuel filters are fuel filters, but maybe it might be better to look for a BMW application or something, as Jaguar is now owned by Ford.
On another note, that fuel line p/n is NOT from Purolator, I called their 1-800 number, Purolator doesn't make fuel lines or connectors, only the filter. Do you remember who made the lines you used?

After a little more searching, I found a screw-type fuel filter for a '97 Porsche 911 Turbo, it's not as common as the GM filter you mentioned earlier though. Pep Boys didn't carry them, but my local Star Auto Parts warehouse had it in stock.
